Going Full Circle

When we are born we rely on our parents for love and sincerity.

Our lives are in their hands from the day we are born.

They lead us to a life of prosperity,

Defending us from anything forlorn.

We are defenseless and small in every way,

But we are loved and cared for everyday.

When we are Five our lives start to become our own.

We learn to read and write and play with friends,

Where we are taught the values of life what seeds to sow.

Seeds that will grow with us to the bitter end.

We are naïve and gullible believe everything we are told.

To maybe do the same to others when we are grey and old.

At the age of thirteen we become teens and know all about the world.

No one can tell us anything about life and love,

We have learnt it all since the day we were Five and we are so bold.

No one can teach us anything as we are strong as a Ship in a cove.

Never deny us anything or we will be forever full of grudge,

Our hormones are just a pile of sludge.

At twenty one we rule the Earth with an iron fist.

We can drink and party and it is all so legal.

We do not even consider a bucket list,

We have been set free like the fledgling of an Eagle.

We start to work and reality strikes,

There will be now more allowance spikes.

At thirty we are married and have our own children to support.

We stop and see where we ourselves have come from.

How are we going to handle all the mood swings as they do not need our support?

The seeds that we have sown those days when we were that age are long gone.

Our Children must still learn what we have forgotten,

Should they behave or be just as rotten.

At fifty we are grey and oh so wrinkled,

Welcoming new born Grand children into our lives.

We tell our children, “You should have listened,

To all we told you when you were little. From the age of five.”

Then we sit back and think about it. We sound just like our parents now.

Oh why has life gone past so quickly? We are old now.

At Seventy, most of us have passed on, never to be forgotten.

The lessons we learnt and taught in our lives are imprinted in our children.

Our lives are over and there is no way of going back to make amend.

We have to just close our eyes and pray that they will learn,

Life’s lessons before it is too late for them to learn things so simple,

Before their lives too, like ours, go full Circle…
