General Advice Before You Leave for Umrah

Umrah is a great blessing of Allah Almighty. It’s the ultimate opportunity for a Muslim to visit the holiest places of Islam and experience the spiritual energy that only resides there. Millions of Muslims from all around the world perform the holy ritual every year. Each of them coming from a different nation, country and traditions. Yet they perform the Umrah together to portray an exceptional example of unity, equality, and respect that Islam gives them. Like every year, a lot of Muslims will be going to perform Umrah this year. A majority of them who has booked a full month Ramadan package for their umrah. 

So, before setting out the spiritual journey there are some guidelines to follow. 

Prepare yourself, do the homework.

Learn the rituals you have to perform on your umrah; Tawaf, Sa’I, Halq, etc. Practice and seek guidance for the proper way of doing the Wudhu and Ghusl. Know the rules of Ihram as no other piece of clothing is permissible to wear during your umrah. Explore the cities online. Learn the directions to the holy sites as well as from your hotel to masjid and places to eat. So that you may not get lost. 

Devote most of our time for Ibadat.

It goes without saying that when you are on an umrah it means you’ve come to the holy cities for seeking forgiveness and blessings of Allah Almighty. It includes a complete cut off from the worldly matters; not worrying about your work life and things like that. Devote as much time in ibadat as you possibly can. Recite Holy Quran, Offer Nafali Salah – spend your time in Dhikr and learning about Islam.

Be Respectful.

You will be accompanied by a lot of Muslims on your umrah. Every one of them is different in terms of speaking, talking, and living. The cultures differ. Therefore, be respectful of everyone. Don’t mock or make fun of anyone. As per the order of Islam, don’t disturb the peace of people. 

Take good care of your personal and oral hygiene

Personal and oral hygiene should remain refreshing all the time. It includes cutting your nails and hair, using neat and clean clothes, applying ‘Itar’ (alcohol-free fragrances), and bathing as necessary. Take face masks with you if you’ve bad breath or you feel the need. As it will not only keep you protected from catching the viral diseases but will also keep others safe as well. 

Help others.

Guide people if you know exactly what they require. Give the needy something to eat. If someone is paralyzed or isn’t able to walk, help them get to the masjid or tell the authorities to arrange appropriate means for them. 
Eat healthy while being there.

Include low-calorie foods in your diet; fruits and vegetables. Avoid unhealthy eating. As it will keep you from falling sick during the umrah trip as well as make you feel energetic and fresh all the time.
