The most popular rivalry in Philippine sports will add another chapter when UAAP Season 79’s finale starts. La Salle lived up to its billing as pre-tournament favorites by reeling off 12 consecutive victories to open their UAAP Season 79 campaign.

Games will be held on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, while venues will be at the Araneta Coliseum and the Mall of Asia Arena.

About: The UAAP Season 79 basketball tournaments are held in school year 2016-17. University of Santo Tomas is the season host while Far Eastern University are the defending champions. ABS-CBN's UHF channel ABS-CBN Sports and Action broadcast the men's tournament for the seventeenth consecutive year.

The long, storied matchup between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP Men's Basketball Tournament is incomparable to any other in the history of Philippine sports. With both teams already established in the collegiate ranks, having eight championship titles to their respective programs since joining the UAAP.

Heading into this season, La Salle was heavy favorites to win it all. Having a roster that was praised for being three rotations deep certainly helped in making those predictions come true. Led by the hulking big man and Most Valuable Player front-runner Ben Mbala, and graduating Jeron Teng, the Archers swept through the eliminations, winning twelve straight games with relative ease.

Then came that fateful day in November, where Ateneo handed La Salle their first loss of the season, in dominating fashion no less.
