Fired Social Media Editor Mathew Boasted Of Ties To Hacker Group Anonymous

by Saik Khanm Learn to Grow

It seems as though the trend of getting fired and then having your replacement also get fired is starting to become a widespread phenomenon.

First, we had the case of Scott Bartosiewicz, who was fired from his position as Social Media Director for Men's Fitness magazine.

However, it doesn't seem like anybody minded so much that he got fired – maybe it was due to the fact that Bartosiewicz made some pretty ridiculous statements back in 2009 about social media, such as:

"It's almost impossible to be creative on Twitter because there are just too many rules."

After being out of work for a year, this Social Media Editor "hired a consulting firm and pushed for a strategy that included Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Pinterest and other social networks."

Unfortunately, the man was fired less than three months later, with his replacement already finding himself out of work as well.

The cycle has now continued to another Social Media Editor. This time, it is Dan Lyons who was recently given the boot from his position at Newsweek. The reason? Well let's take a look at what he tweeted right before he got fired:

"New Newsweek EIC changes 'Digital' to 'Media' in title; immediately fires person replacing him bc she doesn't know how 2 tweet."

Not only did the publication change its name, but Newsweek also decided not to renew Mr. Lyons' contract following "his Twitter comment on Wednesday night about a Newsweek editor, who was replaced by a woman who didn't know how to tweet."

The publication's new editor-in-chief Jim Impoco has a fascinating history of his own. In 2007, he was arrested for petty larceny after being accused of stealing signs from telephone poles advertising the launch party of a men's fashion line. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and had to pay restitution.

In 2009, Mr. Lyons decided to join the company Gizmodo Media Group, which Gawker Media owns. After all, it wasn't so bad. at first:

"On paper, I'm an editor in chief," he wrote before adding: "
