Factors to Consider When Looking For Clerical Skills Tests

by Kristen White Blogger
Every company has numerous employees working at various levels to ensure business goals are being met. In every department, employees are classified based on the type of work they up, their educational qualifications, and work experience.

Most businesses have a large clerical staff that consists of permanent and often contract and temporary employees to identify and solve problems and manage day-to-day operations. Since these employees are so involved in ensuring a business operates efficiently, it is important to hire competent and experienced employees to fill these roles. While many organizations think they do not have the time and energy to invest in hiring clerical employees, they find they are wrong once they experience problems with internal inefficiency, cannot deliver products and services as promised and employee attrition rates increase.

Organizations use pre-employment tests to hire for other jobs and they should do the same to choose the right candidates for clerical positions. When you are looking for clerical skills tests, remember that you need to be able to test candidates for these attributes.

Reading and Writing Abilities: The job of clerical and administrative employees requires reading and replying to email messages, letters and memos, processing orders and invoices and drafting and creating reports and presentations.

Good Grammar and Spelling: Candidate should possess good reading and writing skills so they can check for and correct errors in reports, presentations and correspondence, typos and ensure information is sent to the correct people at the right.

Data Entry Accuracy: It is rare to write reports by hand these days because everything is computerized. Clerical staffers are often required to enter data on the computer and send it to other employees. Therefore, candidates should be able to type quickly and accurately, and have good proofreading abilities.

Basic Computer Skills: Creating forms, editing existing templates, adding, deleting, and updating information and generating monthly reports are tasks routinely performed by clerical staffers. So, candidates need to know how to use spreadsheets and word processing software to enter, format, and present the data in designated layouts and reports.
Companies can use interactive pre employment tests so they can use real-time scenarios to evaluate candidates’ problem-solving abilities and see how they will perform in on the job. They can also use video interviews to screen candidates quickly and efficiently so they can identify the ones they want to invite for a face-to-face interview.
Organizations cannot afford to compromise when it comes to the quality of their clerical staff. This is why they should work with a company that specializes in pre employment assessment tools.
