Factors More Important Than Tubular Battery Price

by Amit Sharma Digital Markter

Every home needs power backup but an inverter alone is not enough. The inverter must be connected to a battery. This is where power is saved for distribution through the inverter. Batteries can be categorized as flat plate batteries and tubular batteries. The latter may be a little more expensive but the tubular battery cost alone should not be the deciding factor. Here are a few other things you should keep in mind.

Battery Lifespan

Like all electrical appliances, every battery has a certain lifespan. As long as the battery is maintained well, the battery should function at its optimal levels for its entire lifespan. That said, the way the battery is constructed also affects its lifespan. Tubular batteries last much longer than flat plate batteries. While flat plate batteries last for a maximum of 3 years, a tubular battery can last for 4-5 years.

Time Taken to Charge

When the main power grid is supplying your home with electricity, the inverter diverts a part of the power to charge its batteries. When the power grid has a blackout, the inverter distributes the power stored in this battery to power appliances in your home. One of the reasons, the tubular battery price is higher than that of a flat plate battery is because it can charge faster. As a result, in the event of long, consecutive blackouts with only short periods of time between them when the battery can charge itself, you will get backup for longer.

Maintenance

When it comes to inverter batteries, the maintenance required is minimal but essential. All you need to do is keep the distil water levels topped up. If the water levels are allowed to fall, the battery will dry up and its functioning will be compromised. Tubular batteries are constructed in such a way that the evaporation of the water within the battery is minimal. As a result, it needs to be topped up with less frequency as compared to other batteries. Apart from this, all you need to do is wipe the top down and keep the terminals free from dust.

Operating Environment

A tubular battery is safe for home use and does not emit any toxins. It should ideally be placed in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunshine. The battery can function well in colder temperatures as well as warmer environments. On the other hand, flat plate batteries cannot function at high temperatures. Given the way average temperatures are rising with global warming, this is an important point to keep in mind when choosing an inverter and battery for your home.

Just as you put  a lot of thought into choosing a television for your home, you need to weigh the pros and cons of the different types of inverter batteries available as well. Though a tubular battery price may be higher than the cost of other batteries, this is the wiser investment. Tubular batteries last longer, provide power backup for longer, can be used to power all the different appliances in your home and require less maintenance.
