Essential ingredients that you should add into your diet if you are suffering from Thyroid

The thyroid gland is known to regulate the metabolism mechanisms in the body. Irregularity of mechanism results in malfunctioning of the hormones which imbalance the bodily systems and functions. One may experience fatigue, muscle weakness, enlarged thyroid gland, either weight gain or weight loss depending upon the type of thyroid condition a person exhibits. As per Ayurveda, the main cause of thyroid is the imbalance of Pitta and Kapha Dosha in which metabolism and hormonal activity are regulated. This practice involves balancing the energies of the body that would directly improve the proper circulation of thyroxin hormone in the body.

Ayurveda is naturally aided branch of science which deals with holistic approach to identify, manage, and treat the root cause of the disease resulting in no side-effects and zero reversibility of the disease. With only slight modifications in diet, lifestyle and daily activities people can see the outcome to be successfully great as not only it brings peace externally but internally also.

  • Iodine: This is the vital mineral required to form thyroid hormone. An adequate amount of iodized salt should be implemented in the diet especially sendha, pink and rock salt
  • Selenium: It is the trace element in thyroid hormone metabolism. Some of the foods rich in selenium are:
    1. Green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, and spinach are enriched with nutrients and vitamins aiding in relieving the discomfort.
    2. Seeds such as sunflower, sesame, and flax are nutritionally potent which instill the body with fatty acids, protein, and fiber. 
    3. Brown rice is an excellent source of essential nutrients which include Vitamins, soluble fiber and complex carbohydrates. 
    4. Chia Seeds are a great source of fiber and amino acids. 
    5. White button mushrooms are not only antioxidants but are also an excellent source of vitamin D.
  • Zinc: Zinc activates the thyroid hormone. To achieve this activation one should add pumpkin seeds in salads or munch the snacks rich in zinc element to replenish the body.
  • Vitamin-B: Low thyroid hormones decrease the levels of vitamin B in the body, to manage the levels of respective vitamins increase the intake of such foods.

  • Fruits: Pectins are known to detoxify mercury from the body, apples, pears, plums and citrus fruits are abundantly rich with it, so consume fresh fruits to ease your uneasiness.
  • Probiotics: They contain bacteria that help in keeping the stomach and intestines healthy. Fermented food products along with yogurt have proven to be beneficial.
  • Ashwagandha: It lowers the level of stress hormones giving significant improvements in thyroid hormone.
  • Guggul: It regulates the functioning of the thyroid gland. In addition, the herb has antioxidant properties which protect the thyroid gland from oxidative stress.
  • Green Tea: It is a sure shot metabolism booster as antioxidants present in it force the fat cells to release the fat and burn the excess fat.
Thyroid disease is often a long-term medical condition that needs to be managed constantly. However, a person can usually live a normal life with such a disorder.
