Employee Engagement and its Three “Cs”

When one asks any HR manager regarding the concept of employee engagement, they have only the very best to say. Every company, organization or institution looks for in their employ certain qualities such as loyalty, efficiency, passion, and employee engagement is their medium to have it.

The three Cs to gain an engaged employee

·         Career: Every individual wants to excel in life, have a meaning to his existence, is driven by the urge to earn not just money but a good life, a decent standard of living, wants an opportunity to grow his career through promotions, rotations and significant assignments etc. These are the basic requirements of every employee and to transform him from an ordinary employee into an engaged employee it of utmost importance that these opportunities and requirements are provided and catered to. When a company spends reasonable time in helping employees grow their careers- employees will definitely feel engaged.  

·         Competence: While career is the actual growth of a person, competence is the ability of the person to grow. To assist the employee in this growth it is important that the right opportunities to learn are provided and the same learning is applied in real life tasks which further grow competence. Employees are always looking to boost their competence and for that they would like to learn and improve as long as they feel they are growing and developing marketable skills. Hence, the employees who are helped in their current jobs to become competent are engaged.

·         Care: Care is an emotion, a fine art that requires companies to be sensitive and empathetic towards their employees. Caring is expressed through the small day-to-day gestures, making them believe in you, supporting them etc. Caring is a culture which is fostered in companies among its employees as well as teaching them how to balance tasks as well as emotional relationships. Hence, general caring is a medium to encourage engagement.

In India the Employee Engagement Process, is gaining popularity and many major industries and entrepreneurs are building there employee base on the basis of the level of engagement a person is willing to provide. These engaged employees are employed by organizations on the basis of their merit in certain fields, through processes such as Employee Referral and the Applicant Tracking System among others.

  •           The process of employee referral refers to a procedure of employing potential candidates through their existing employees’ social network whereby you create a work culture of employing dedicated and highly referred persons to create a employer brand for your company. To ensure the referral is purely professional ensure that the referral is made by the right people, proactively encourage referrals, step up your awards, etc.


  •          The applicant tracking is a programme for ensuring a successful personnel monitoring in a world where security and safety are of utmost importance. It is a way to know how well a company monitors its employees, customers and sites. This programme has proven to be a blessing in hazardous locations and ensures the security of company from any liability.


  •          Further, the importance of an employee tracking system cannot be ignored because of its importance in keeping a check on the whereabouts of the company’s employees while they are on a work-tour, to ensure that the work at hand is taken care off.
