Educating the Girl Child is the Need of the Hour!
by Pooja Late so cutThe Indian subcontinent has its own list of problems
which include female foeticide and infanticide. Girls are more often than not
looked at as burdens to their family. People from the lower economic
backgrounds still believe that dowry would be the biggest issue they would face
because of their daughters.
During this day and age, girls should not be looked at
as burdens. To equip them to take care of themselves and subsequently their
families, educating a girl child becomes really important. There are now NGOs for education for
the girl
child.
The Sad Reality of India
Despite living in the 21st century, it is
the sad truth that most of India still lives in the dark ages – where the girl
receives little to no education. Her role in her family from a very early age
becomes that of a household help, until she is married off. Sometimes these
girls are married off even before they reach the legal age. Child marriages are
still prevalent in India, despite the best efforts to curb them.
There are NGOs for education in India that
specializes in providing an opportunity to girls to get an education has made a
huge difference in the lives of many little girls. Thanks to these projects, a
lot of girls are presently being educated!
Most of us take receiving an education for granted. We
believe that it is our right and our parents have to send us to school. For us,
it is a natural process. Nevertheless there are 20 million girls in India who
would rather be boys because at least the boys have an access to education. At
least the boys get to dream about the future and have an opportunity towards leaving
the world their parents brought them into behind.
The girl child, on the other hand, is
forced to think a certain way and act a certain way. Without the help of a
proper education, the girl child is trapped in the life that they were born
into. Educating the girl child serves a lot of purposes. This includes being
self-sufficient and understanding that she does not need to be a part of the
vicious cycle their parents had believed in.
The Importance of Education for the
Girl Child
By educating a girl child she is being
empowered to follow her dreams. The young girl is being gifted the opportunity
to dream about a better life and pursue her goals. You can do your bit by
becoming a sponsor for such NGOs that work towards the girl child project.
Some of these NGOs have come up with innovative
methods to teach their young. It teaches the girl child basics of
English and Maths via their preloaded programs in a yellow tablet. The next
level gets unlocked only when they are able to successfully complete the level
they are on. These NGOs aim to educate the girl child by make
learning fun.
Helping the girl child today would help them in
building a steady life later on. Education is the most important tool that a girl
child could possibly have under their belt. The NGOs for education, work
towards proving the little girls just as much opportunities as the little boys.
For the sake of a better India, and an India which gives both the sons and
daughters equal opportunities, it is important to educate the girl child.
