Girl child- her rights and law:

are one-third of our population and all of our future”. Child rights are
specialized human rights that apply to all human begins below the age of 18.
The child rights are universally defined by UNCRC (United Nations Convention on
the Rights of a Child). According to UNCRC Child rights are minimum
entitlements and freedom should be provided to all persons below 18 regardless
of gender, religion, race, language, color, opinions, origins, wealth, ability,
birthplace and thus apply to all people everywhere.
Activities of UNCRC:
• Right to Survival: According to the
government of India, Child life begins after 22 weeks of conception. Child rights to be born, shelter and
clothing, minimum standards of food and right to live with dignity come under
right to survival.
• Right to Protection: Rights to
protection is the foremost consideration when discussing the rights of a girl child. A child has the
right to be protected from exploitation and abuse at home and elsewhere.
• Right to Participation: Taking age
and maturity of the child into account, the child has the right to participate
in any decision making that involves him/her directly or indirectly.
• Right to Development: This act talks
about three major parts: Mental, Physical and Emotional. Children have the
right to all forms of development. Physical development through adequate
nutritious food and play, mental development through education and learning,
emotional development by fulfill proper care and support system.
Child marriage and
pregnancy:
Over
10 million girls worldwide are getting married under the age of 18. This can
put their health at risk if they become pregnant being very young. The report
says every year 70000 teenagers die in developing countries due to
complications related to childbirth and pregnancy. These facts can have a
serious consequence on their futures. This type of violence is difficult to fix
and avoid since it occurs behind closed doors. Typically it is considered a
private problem and many women would not show up the courage to report it. The
government still lacks behind to detect and punish this type of violence.
Equality and
Non-discrimination:
The
principle of equality and non-discrimination guarantees that those in equal
circumstances are dealt with equally in law and practice. Right to be protected
from being forced into bonded labor needs more attention from the Indian
Government. Right to equality also speaks about Right to personal liberty, the
right of weaker sections of the people to be protected from social injustice
and all forms of exploitation. Children
are more vulnerable than adults to the conditions under which they live.

Rights of a girl child go just beyond human rights which exist
to ensure fair and proper treatment of female around the world and promote
their well-being.
