Foreigners who wish to enter India on long visas, which are valid for more than 180 days, should complete all relevant registration formalities well in advance. Anyone who holds a Student Visa or Employment Visa, which valid for more than 180 days, is required to get themselves registered with the nearest Foreign Registration Office, within 14 days of their arrival in India. All foreign citizens, even children, require a valid visa to enter India. The only exceptions are nationals of Nepal and Bhutan, who are allowed to enter India without a visa. Foreigners coming from or through yellow fever countries must also have a valid vaccination certificate.

There are many different kinds of Visas available, which one can easily get thanks to the numerous visa services available nowadays. People entering India need to get the appropriate visa based on the purpose of their visit. Here are the different types of Visas that the people can opt for:

Tourist Visa

A Tourist Visa is given to the people who plan to visit India for the sole purpose of tourism. Tourist visas may be valid starting from 3 months and sometimes also tend to stretch over to a year, with single, or multiple entries.


Conference Visa

A Conference visa is granted for those people who plan to attend international conferences. These visas can be issued only after clearance for the conference is declared by the Government of India.


Transit Visa

A transit visa is granted to allow the holder to pass through India to reach his final destination. These Transit visas are offered for direct transits only, they are valid for 15 days post the issuing date, after which the immigrant has to leave the country.

 

Business Visa

A Business Visa is granted to those who plan to do business in India, such as making sales or establishing contacts with other any company outside India. Business visas are usually valid for 6 months to a maximum period of a year or more. They allow both single and even multiple entries.

 

Student Visa

A Student Visa is granted to bon-fide students that wish to pursue regular studies in any institutions based in India. The Visa is valid for the entire term of the course, which is decided by the educational institution in India.
