The tourism industry in India is abuzz with the word dental tourism. A part of medical tourism, which is a large umbrella that encompasses several types of medical treatments like surgery, dental, cosmetic etc, this particular tourism sector is the one with the largest potential. Basically medical tourism takes place when patients from other countries come into a particular country for a low cost treatment that they have to pay a higher amount for in their own country. In dental care sector maximum number of people who come into India are for dental and oral healthcare.

The oral healthcare cost in Europe and the USA is extremely high. Each year, the cost keeps on increasing to match the level of treatment and the development in that sector. Plus, in most western countries there is a long waiting list for certain types of treatments and surgeries which can happen in India at a much faster rate. Owing to all these factors, medical tourism in India has expanded at an enormous rate, and the sector which sees an influx of foreign population for treatment is dental care.

A staggering 34% of the US population comes into India for dental care treatment. While they give many different reasons for the same, the primary reason is the low cost of treatment and the effective results. The availability of expert surgeons at low cost as compared to their own country makes India a hot bed of developing dental tourism. Some experiences shared by many foreigners who have come into the country and taken superior dental care treatment at less than half the amount they would pay originally. Plus, the equipments and the state of the art technology along with result oriented techniques makes it a leading nation in medical tourism.

While many treatments in dental care make their appearance on the demand list, but much of it is either dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, full mouth-restoration or crown restoration. Now this again is a wide category and there are several types of treatments involved in that as well. Today, every dentist in India is well versed with the technological advancement in the field of cosmetic dentistry and dental care. Their knowledge is no longer limited to regular dental procedures, but they now take more cosmetic treatments than their regular ones.
