Aaron James Finch is a powerful top-order batter for Victoria. Finch, renowned for his powerful hitting and capacity to perform games, was named to Australia's Under-19 squad for the 2006 World Cup. Although he began as a middle-order hitter, Finch was deployed as a floater and played up in the order for his local team when needed. His greatest season was in 2009 when he performed admirably in the T20 Big Bash competition.

During the season, he got his first First-Class hundred, a 102 against Tasmania. He earned a berth in the middle order of the Victoria Bushrangers and played a key role in their championship victory. His season performance won him a position in the Rajasthan IPL team, where he played just one game.

In the Champions League T20 competition in South Africa in 2010, Finch's image as a power-hitter increased. He hit 41 off 17 balls versus eventual winners Chennai and later in the competition produced a match-winning fifty. His performance helped him land a deal with Delhi for the 2011 IPL season when he was selected for the US $300,000 in exchange for his skills.

In 2011, Finch also led Australia in two Twenty20 International matches even against the touring English squad. He validated his selection by hitting a blazing 53 off 33 balls in his second match at the MCG, earning him Man of the Match honours and helping Australia tie the series.

He subsequently began to consistently score, and he is now nearly a given in Australia's limited-overs teams. Finch drew attention in 2013 when he hammered England all over the field in a T20I his route to a spectacular 63-ball 156, the greatest individual total in that format. He maintained his strong form and scored well in the quickest format, forging a powerful opening partnership with David Warner. He also competed in the 2014 World T20 and performed admirably.

The right-hander made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in early 2013 and has been a long time member of the team ever since. He also had a handful of fifties in India before going on to record two centuries against England after The Ashes series.

Finch had a successful tri-series in Zimbabwe, hitting two fifties and a century. Despite his failure to perform well in Australia vs Pakistan in the UAE, he upped his game again for the home ODI series versus South Africa, when he was once again among the scores. Ultimately, a solid average of up to 40 earned him a spot in Australia's World Cup roster for 2015. Finch played for the Mumbai Indians in the 2015 IPL. He was forced to withdraw from the event after hurting his left hamstring.

The World Cup across the years

Aaron Finch's first World Cup as skipper and his second altogether, following his participation in Australia's triumphant campaign in 2015. He had a mediocre campaign back then, starting with a great century against England before dropping down for the following few games. Nevertheless, when it came to the big stage, Finch was returned to his best, scoring a hard-fought fifty versus India in the semi-final. His collaboration with Steve Smith was critical to Australia's prospects in the game. With the extra obligation of leadership this time, Finch must lead from the front.
