The makeup colours keep changing as per the changes in seasons and styles. But the colour in trend might not be suitable for your skin type and complexion. Each skin type and colour has a few specific colours, which would look good. Even the most expensive products will not look good on the face if its colour does not gel with your skin tone. Here’s how you can determine your skin type, tone, and thereby the makeup.

1.    Know your skin tone – This is the first and most important step for applying makeup. In order to do this, looking into the mirror wearing a white top. And be sure that the light in the room is incandescent or natural, as fluorescent or yellow light will mostly reflect off the skin. Check if the skin seems to have much of yellow-red, which is a warm skin tone, or much of blue-pink, which is a cool skin tone. But the skin tone is not the colour of your skin. Skin tone is the colour under your skin, which reflects or gets enhanced when against white. The skin undertone is usually shortened to skin tone to refer to the colour. There are not more than two basic tones, but there are lots of skin colours. Once you find out whether your skin tone is warm or cool, you can choose the colour of the makeup.

2.   Know your skin colour – Two people sharing a similar skin colour do not necessarily need to have the similar skin tone. You can have a fair colour and a cool tone, or a fair colour and a warm tone. You also can have a dark skin with either warm or cool. This largely depends on the genetics and ethnicity. You may not fall under one exact category of skin colour and most people are usually in between categories. Knowing the closest category helps in finding the right colour even better.

3.    Select a foundation – The colour of the foundation should be exactly the same as that of your skin colour. If the colour of your skin changes with the change in season, you can buy a different foundation for the other season. Try it out before buying. Try it between your jawbone and lower cheek. This is the most apt place to know if it is blending with your skin colour or not. For a cool skin tone, go in for a foundation, which has pink or blue undertones. If your skin tone is warm, then select a foundation, which has a yellow tone. For a dark skin, see that the foundation does not make your skin tone look very fake. You can go in with the foundation having a yellow tone.

4.    Selecting the blush – To highlight the cheeks, a blush is used. If you have a dark skin, go in for plum shades. If fair, bronze-orange shades would look lovely.

Once you have applied the basic layering makeup on the face, you can apply the eyeliner and lipstick according to your ensemble. And, if you still feel confused about your skin tone/colour, visit the best beauty parlour in Gurgaon or the city you live in for the best advice.
