Captain Amarinder Singh Calls On Govt. To Respond Strongly To Dina Nagar Attack
CHANDIGARH, July 27: Former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, has condemned the Dina Nagar attack in Gurdaspur district where armed men stormed parts of the town, including the local police station, resulting in loss of civilian and police personnel’s lives. “This is for the first time in recent past that such terror attack has taken place in Punjab and that is the cause of grave concern”, he said in a official release issued here today.Extending unconditional support to the government for maintaining peace in the state, Capt Amarinder said that the perpetrators of the attack were identified and should be brought to justice. He also observed similarities in modulus operandi with earlier attacks when terrorists infiltrated from across the border had carried out attacks on police stations in Samba and Kathua in the adjoining state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The former Chief Minister also said that Punjab must up its guard and be more alert and vigilant. “We have seen the darkest decade not long ago and lost thousands of precious lives and we cannot afford that again”, he added, while saying that terrorism was a challenge that had to be dealt with collectively as terrorists are everyone’s enemies.
The senior Congress leader also expressed the need to deal with terrorism with an iron hand. “We need to tell them that there is always a limit to our tolerance and patience and we cannot take it anymore”, he asserted, while seeking strong action so that these attacks are not repeated in future.
Capt Amarinder Singh also stressed that India must let the world know that it’s fully capable and competent to handle terror situations and would not hold back from dealing a strong response if its sovereignty and people were at risk.
“Both are precious and dear to us and no price shall be too big to reaffirm our commitment to safeguard these”, he concluded.
