Captain Amarinder Hails SP Baljeet Singh In The Dinanagar Attack
The Punjab govt. is drawing a lot of flak for possibly ignoring the intelligence of a terror attack brewing up in the state. It is reported that the Badals were forewarned but the govt. couldn’t get their act together and thwart the attack in Dinanagar. Former Chief Minister and Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh has held Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal squarely responsible for the lives lost in the Dinanagar attack.
“Our enemies will continue to conspire against us and it is our responsibility to remain alert and vigilant, which Mr Badal chose not to be”, said Captain Amarinder Singh. He also called into question Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was overseas at the time, for choosing his trip over the call of duty.
Paying homage to late SP Baljeet Singh, who laid down his life fighting the terrorists, Captain Amarinder Singh reiterated that despite prior intelligence, the government did not get its gear up. “The government appears to have thrown the alert into dustbin and the consequences are before us”, he said.
He said that SP Baljeet Singh’s family has had a long legacy of valour and sacrifice. While nothing can truly make up for their loss, the family must be compensated with a government job for the son.
Captain Singh ruled out the possibility that terrorism is creeping its way back into Punjab and in his opinion, Dinanagar was an isolated incident abetted by miscreants across the border. He also lashed out at the Badals for pursuing panthic agendas for personal interests.
While the alert was not too specific, there was a lot that could have been done as a follow-up, he said. “The intelligence alerts may not be too specific, but what measures did they take after getting alerted?”
He also hailed Punjab police for their swift action and efforts in bringing the terrorists down. Not seeing much sense in the army call-out, he said, “I am surprised over so much fuss in certain quarters for not involving the army in the operation when Punjab Police were perfectly competent to do the job which they did so well with great confidence and courage and sacrificed precious lives in the process. “I am surprised over the wisdom of those people who wanted to involve army to flush out just three terrorists.”
He also believes that the five commando battalions along with specially trained SWAT personnel with Punjab police are competent enough to handle any situation on their own.
