Building information modeling has become mandatory for building projects all over the world and UAE is no exception to that. In 2014 Dubai Municipality through a circular has mandated the use of BIM in its building projects of a certain height, size or type. The circular declared a wholesale move to BIM and further circular dating to 2015 confirmed that BIM is to be extended to all buildings and facilities in Dubai. This mandatory circular also encourages more buildings to adopt to BIM and it eliminated the earlier conditions of height, and size requirements. This drove further projects to adapt to the UK BIM standards as they are considered as the best in the building industry and a committee to investigate the adoption was appointed by the Quality and Conformity Commission of UAE.

CAD services in UAE have come to the fore to help developers adopt the BIM standards in their buildings and they do it in a cost effective and project specific manner. What is a building information modeling? It is a digital representation of the functional and physical characteristics of a building and it creates a shared knowledge base which is highly reliable and passed on to the members of a project team to help in the decision making process during the life cycle of the facility or structure. Two dimensional drawings were largely instrumental in deciding building designs relevant to plans, sections, elevations etc. BIM spreads beyond 3D emphasizing the basic elements of width, height and depth and add fourth dimension in time and fifth in cost. On the whole BIM encompasses more than geometry and spatial relationships, but includes geographic data, light analysis, properties of building components such as depicting manufacturer details, quantities and more.

The BIM design tools enable you to extract various views of a building project to use in the development and building process. These views are based on a single definition and are consistent while projecting the views of each object instance. Attributes accompany each element so that it is easy to select them and order and get cost estimates, material ordering and tracking.

Virtual information is provided to professionals involved in the projects that include architects, surveyors, engineers, structural and building services, landscape architects, sub contractors, main contractors and owners. However the projects in UAE would require the services of BIM UAE as the concept may be new to most UAE developers and it would also reduce the cost of having their own BIM management team.
