Blastocysts and Multiple Pregnancies: Myth or Real-ity?

by Dr. Manika Khanna Gaudium IVF Centre

The chance of multiple pregnancies becomes higher with patients going for IVF treatments. In the condition of multiple pregnancies, a woman conceives more than one child. Infertility treatment in Delhi increases the chances of women giving birth to twins, triplets or more.

More than one embryo transfer, which also increases the chance of IVF success, is one of the reasons as to what leads to multiple pregnancies in women.

Fewer chances of multiple births with Blastocyst:

Just after 5 days of fertilization, the formation of blastocyst takes place. Transfer of Blastocyst reduces the possibility of multiple pregnancies. After 5-6 days of fertilization, the blastocyst begins to enter endometrium of the uterine wall.

Higher implantation rates empower doctors to trade fewer blastocysts, possibly only a solitary. This diminishes or keeps up a key separation from various births and their related issues.

Should you go for blastocyst transfers?

There are many IVF clinics in Delhi that do embryo transfers on day two or day three. This is, however, not a good practice and one should always go for day five- blastocyst transfers routine only. Mostly what happens is that most doctors used to do the transfer of embryos on a day two or day three only. Reason being they are not confident enough in the quality. This is not at all a good practice and patients should go for blastocyst transfer only.

One should go for blastocyst transfers because:

  • It has a better chance of implantation
  • Higher chances of getting success rate
  • Reduces the number of embryo transfer to just one or two
  • Embryos are chromosomally better balanced

The most vital reason why you should consult the best IVF doctor in India is because they will do a Day 5 exchange is so that you don't have to put yourself into that unexpected 2-week hold up of not being certain whether you will get pregnant or not. Also, if the IVF cycle fails after Day 3 embryos, you never know whether the issue was on the grounds that the embryos did not build up or if there was some other reason behind the fizzled implantation.
