Applications, properties, and manufacturing of basic green 4 liquid

by Sanjeev Yadav SEO Consultant
Basic green 4 liquid is an organic compound that is used as a dyestuff and controversially as an antimicrobial in aquaculture. It is also known as malachite green that is traditionally used as a dye for different materials like leather silk and paper. Regardless of its name this chemically compounded dye is not prepared from the mineral malachite. It is the similarity of color only that gives it the name malachite. The basic green 4 liquid suppliers in India offer this product in various quantity packs to meet the variegated needs of the market.

Features of basic green 4 liquid
1. Malachite green is an organic chloride salt that is the monochloride salt of the malachite green cation.
2. Used as a green-colored dye, as a counter-stain in histology
3. For its anti-fungal properties, it is used in aquaculture

It has a role as
• A fluorochrome,
• A histological dye,
• An antifungal drug,
• A carcinogenic agent,
• A teratogenic agent,
• An environmental contaminant and
• An antibacterial agent.

Therapeutic uses
It is antiseptic in nature, hence used internally as well as externally.
• Internally- in calf scours and canine dysentery (Escherichia coli).
• Externally- on infected wounds and abrasions
It is often used as a triple dye, as it is containing gentian violet, brilliant green, and rivanol.

Its bacteriostatic effectiveness is decreased by increased concentration of bile salts.

Manufacturing of Malachite green
Malachite green is synthesized by condensation of benzaldehyde with dimethylaniline in sulfuric acid and oxidation of the leuco compound in hydrochloric acid solution with lead dioxide or manganese dioxide.

Production of liquid dyes
Benzaldehyde is condensed with dimethylaniline in acetic acid to give a leuco base. It is then oxidized catalytically with atmospheric oxygen in the presence of iron and chloranil.

Niche-based applications
Numerous niche applications exploit the intense color of this component.
• It is used as an organic stain for atomic analysis of tissue samples and cell biology.
• In the Gimenez staining method, malachite green is used as a blue-green counterstain.
• Malachite green is also used in endospore staining, as it can directly stain endospores within bacterial cells;
• Malachite green can also be used as a saturate absorber in dye lasers, or as a pH indicator between pH 0.2–1.8.
