8 Popular Alternatives for Zoom You Must Know

by Joseph Ricard Director

Zoom is one of the most popular video conferencing applications available. Video calls are simple to set up and host. However, given current security and privacy issues concerning Zoom, you may want to consider a substitute. They’re all great for video conversations with family and friends, as well as conferencing with coworkers while working from home.

While all of these programs have free versions, some also provide temporary access to additional capabilities if needed. Let’s take a look at the best zoom alternatives.

Zoom Alternatives

By following some effective tricks and tips, you can become a pro in using Zoom. But knowing some alternatives to it is always good, right? Here are some of the best alternatives that are available right now. Some have a basic free tier plan with limited features, and some of them are entirely free.

Cisco Webex

Webex has been present in the market for a while now. Cisco purchased the company in 2007 after it was created back in 1995.

For a long time, it has been renowned as a business application that serves businesses and enterprises. But it also has a free version that is worth checking out. Specifically, now the free tier plan features have increased the number of participants from 50 to 100.

Meetings can last up to 50 minutes on the basic plan, which is entirely free. Screen sharing, virtual backgrounds, the option to save recordings locally, unlimited messaging, and message searching are just a few of the features available.

Webex also provides premium subscriptions, which start at $12 per month for each license, in addition to the free version.

Cloud storage, recording transcripts, calling anyone using a phone number, voicemail, Mp4 format recordings, and more are all included in the premium subscriptions.

Skype Meet Now

Skype, a long-time player in the video conferencing arena, has been a go-to platform for one-on-one discussions since the beta was introduced in 2003, thanks to its high-quality voice and video.

The Meet Now feature (found on the left side of the desktop software by selecting the Meet Now button) allows for free video conferencing. Skype has been a popular service and is a business-ready video conferencing tool.

You may even create a free conference room on Skype’s website without needing to download the app.

Jitsi Meet

Jitsi Meet is an open-source Zoom alternative platform that allows you to create an online meeting fast and easily by going to the site, filling in a name for your meeting room, and clicking the Start Meeting button.

Jitsi Videobridge is a good place to start if you’re more technical and want to construct your own dedicated solution.

Most people, however, will be satisfied with the web version, which includes many capabilities seen in more well-known apps, such as end-to-end encryption, screen sharing, app integrations, and HD audio and video.

App for iOS and Android are also available from Jitsi Meet.

Google Meet

To compete with Zoom and the expanding number of rivals like Facebook, Google announced its professional video conferencing tool, Meet, will be available for free. It is a brilliant Zoom alternative

Initially, Google Meet was only available to G Suite Enterprise users. But since that has changed, anybody with a Gmail account may now use it to communicate with up to 100 people.

Unless you upgrade, group calls will be limited to 60 minutes. Premium features such as screen-sharing, flexible layouts, closed subtitles, and the ability to invite external participants will still be available.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams allows companies to keep all of their chats, files, meetings, and apps in a shared workspace that can be accessed from any device.

Teams allows you to manage projects on the go, including file editing and sharing. Best of all, you can connect face-to-face with high-definition audio and video, as well as join meetings from anywhere.

You may also talk privately or in groups, connect in specified channels, save discussions, customize notifications, and search conversations using Teams.

Although there are paid versions of the service, the free version includes many of the tools you’ll need to stay in touch with your coworkers, such as screen sharing, integrated apps, and unlimited texting.

Talky

Talky is a super simple video chat application that allows you to make a video call in seconds. It is not mandatory to register to use it. Only choose a name for your group and share the link with your friends.

You may also share your screen and kill time while waiting for your friends or coworkers to answer the call by playing the Lander game. The main disadvantage is that each call is limited to only six people.

GoToMeeting

GoToMeeting is a video conferencing service that has been around for quite some time, making it one of the most prominent Zoom alternatives available. With support for all platforms, the app includes basic functions such as screen sharing, similar to Zoom screen sharing, Zoom call, and other options based on your plan.

Although GoToMeeting does not provide a free subscription, it does offer a 14-day free trial after which you can pick from one of three options, it’s a terrific service similar to Zoom because it supports up to 300 individuals who can participate through PC or phone.

BlueJeans

BlueJeans is the last app on our list of alternatives for Zoom. It is one of the most user-friendly video conferencing tools available, allowing you to manage a corporate team of up to 100 individuals. It has all of the necessary features to meet the needs of the user.

You can try BlueJeans for a week before deciding to stay or go. There are also other capabilities, such as the ability to record the meeting and share it with individuals who were unable to attend in person.

Summing Up!

Zoom has several capabilities, including Zoom call, Zoom meeting, etc. it’s terrible that such a promising video conferencing technology had to resort to providing user data to Facebook, via their iOS app.

Nonetheless, all of the Zoom competitors listed above are excellent options. We recommend that you test the one that best fits your needs.
