7 Essential Tips to Relieve Computer Eye Strain

by BluTech Lenses Blue Light Filter Glasses

If you spend several hours in front of a computer screen like most of us and have experienced burning sensation in the eyes, blurry vision, throbbing headache, eye twitching, redness, neck ache, or dry eyes, you must know that it’s computer eyestrain, AKA Computer Vision Syndrome.

It occurs due to bright computer screen light, constant staring, and glaring surfaces. So, for a preventive approach, exercise the following seven tips to relieve computer eye strain with time:

  1. Go for routine eye examinations: Make it a habit to go for a regular eye checkup every 6 – 12 months. Be sure to discuss any problems that you may be facing and let the expert know your routine as they may suggest any preventive measures.
  2. Tweak ambient lighting: Bright outdoor lights or insufficient/ harsh ambient lighting may often strain your eyes with prolonged computer usage. So, use low-intensity lights and make sure your space is half as bright as an office area. Also, reduce the number of overhead lights that obstruct your view.
  3. Reduce glare: Any reflections coming from walls, computer screens, or finished surfaces can strain your eyes. Consider working in anti-reflective spaces and screens with an anti-glare display.
  4. Update display: Replace your old-style CRT monitor with an anti-reflective flat-panel LED. The latter causes no flickering, which may otherwise lead to burnout while working on digital screens. Consider investing in the one with the highest possible resolution (lower dot-pitch) and a larger display.
  5. Exercise your eyes: Use the 20-20-20 rule: look away after every 20 minutes, at an object at least 20 feet away for a minimum of 20 seconds. It’s a great way to reduce the risk of tiring your eyes while continually working on screens.
  6. Modify your work setup: Your workstation must be so that your eyes aren’t forced to focus at various distances. Place documents adjacent to the screen, correct your posture, rest your feet comfortably, position the screen at least 20 inches far, and your pupils must remain at least 10 degrees below the center of your eyes.
  7. Consider computer glasses: For greatest visual comfort, get yourself a pair of blue light blocking lenses. It’s a convenient solution than wearing eye lenses, which eventually causes redness and dry eyes. Computer glasses are an excellent choice to reduce the exposure to harmful blue light that’s most emitted by electronic devices/ gadgets and lead to eye strain and other vision problems.

Need better assistance? Contact an eye specialist and ask for advice. Update your workspace if that works for you. Get in touch with a blue light glasses dealer to get a suitable pair if that’s what you’re most comfortable with.
