5 Tips for the Perfect BBQ

by Emma L. Business consultant

You know that the BBQ season is starting when you see a lot of T-shirt tanned arms and smell charcoal in the air. Although most of us have participated in barbequing at least once in our life and probably tried firing up a BBQ or two by ourselves, we can’t call ourselves experts. Moreover, we’re probably complete amateurs who don’t know how to tell when the meat is just right. Luckily, experts are there to give us some advice so that we can make ourselves at least somewhat better. Check out some of these expert tips on how to make the best barbeque ever.

Always clean the grill

High temperatures created by the grill will kill all germs that could infect your food, but this is not a good enough reason not to clean the grill before and after your BBQ. The ghosts of barbeques past remember the previous events, as grill bars soak in all the taste. Your meat will also be cooked more slowly and with overall less quality if you don’t scrub the rust of the bars before lighting up the fire. There are several ways to clean a BBQ, but you should focus on the ones using natural ingredients, such as vinegar, coffee and onions.

Fuel can change the taste

Even though you might think that it’s completely unimportant which kind of fuel you use (because it’ll be burned anyway), you’re dead wrong. Fuel gives the BBQ taste because the meat soaks up all the gases and smoke from the fire. Furthermore, fuel can completely change the taste of your meat, depending on whether you use gas or charcoal, and the same goes for additional wood you use to light up the fire. Oak and hickory make great fish and fork barbeques, while cherry and apple wood add sweet notes to the taste of meat. Soaking the wood with beer after lighting it is also a neat trick you should try.

Don’t start before the fire’s perfect

Lighting up the fire is just the first step of the barbequing process, and you should make sure that you go through this step thoroughly in order for everything else to be perfect. First of all, you should never ever put meat on a high fire. You have to wait for the fire to die down because flame-grilling is a mistake that is only going to turn your meat into rust. You have to wait for the coal to be white-hot, and this is the perfect moment to put the meat on. If you want to make sure that the coal is ready, you should try breaking one coal piece into smaller ones, and if they are bright red, then you’re good to go.

It’s all about the right temperature

The fire is now ready and the charcoal is hot, so it’s time to put the meat on the heat. However, even if you have made the perfect fire, you can still ruin the meal for all your friends if you keep the meat on the BBQ for too long. If only you could walk away from the grill and somehow still know when the meat is ready. Well, guess what – now you can! Thanks to modern technology, you can even make barbeques at home while you are away at work using wireless networks. By using a BBQ thermometer, you can control the fire temperature by regulating airflow from the smoker that lets you know when the food is ready. Now, you can even make BBQs in your sleep and still be assured that it will be prepared perfectly.

Clean your equipment on the way

No good BBQ can be created with rusty equipment. If you have made sure that all of your gadgets are up-to-date, then you should also make sure that they are spotlessly clean before you start grilling. However, the equipment can get very dirty during the barbequing process, which is why you should clean it a couple of times on the go. The best way to clean the equipment naturally is to let the fire rage on it to seal the metal pores and disintegrate any remains of oil, grease and metal shavings. This is also a good thing to do before starting the BBQ, and also after finishing it.

Now all that is left is for you to try out some of these tricks during your next BBQ adventure. Keep in mind that barbeque masters aren’t born, but made with practice and a lot of experience. Each new BBQ brings you a step closer to mastering this skill, so make sure you keep on going until everyone around starts begging for another one of your famously good barbeques.
