2 Types of Umrah

by Ady Grewal Content writer
Also known as “Lesser Pilgrimage or Minor Pilgrimage”, Umrah is an Arabic word that means ‘Visit a Populated Place”, specifically the city of Makkah. The concept of umrah has a lot of significance in Islam. Unlike Hajj, Umrah isn’t an obligation for every Muslim. It’s a sunnah of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Any Muslim who is willing to perform umrah and have the financial means to sponsor it, he/she can easily offer the Nafali Ibadat. On the other hand, Hajj is a compulsion for you if you possess the money and health required for it.

Performing Umrah is the dream of every Muslim. It is the best way to seek forgiveness and blessings from Allah Almighty. Umrah not only frees you from all the worldly stress and worries but also provides an opportunity to have a fresh start. A start of a life that is much more purposeful, and devoted for the help of others.

In Islam, there are two types of Umrah;

1. Umrah-ul-Mufradah.
2. Umrah-ul-Tamattu.

Umrah-ul-Mufradah.

Umrah-ul-Mufradah is the one that is independent of Hajj. Meaning that Umrah-ul-Mufradah can be performed any time of the Islamic year with the exception of Days of Hajj. No matter where you reside in the world, you are free to perform as many umrahs in your life as you want. However, Saudia Arabia’s Law states that there is a 6-month wait for you in order to apply for your next umrah. You get the Umrah visa for 14 days and can’t stay a day longer than that in the Kingdom.

Millions of Muslims come every year to perform umrah with hundreds of thousands averaging out in a month. The umrah season is at its peak during the month of Ramadan. As it’s the most sacred month for Muslims that brings infinite blessings, they prefer to book Cheap Ramadan umrah packages 2020 beforehand and reserve their spot in advance at an affordable price with quality living facilities.

Umrah-ul-Tamattu.

Umrah-ul-Tamattu isn’t different from Umrah-ul-Mufradah at all. However, it is performed in conjunction with the Hajj. All the Muslims coming for Hajj have the obligation to perform Umrah-ul-Tamattu before the beginning of Hajj rituals. So, pilgrims have to perform Umrah-ul-Tamattu before the 8th of Dhul Hijjah.

Umrah-ul-Tamattu doubles the blessings and rewards of hajj and is an exemplary portrayal of Muslim Unity. As millions of Muslims belonging to different nations, races, and cultures get to do Umrah and Hajj on the same trip, together. On the other hand, haram becomes quite crowded as the days of hajj come closer. Therefore, if you are going for hajj, it is advised to perform Umrah-ul-Tamattu as soon as you reach there without any delay. Thus, you can have plenty of time to offer other prayers and efficiently prepare yourself for Hajj.
