Most often when people are searching for Scottsdale real estate, it is because they want the desert weather than living in the Scottsdale or Phoenix area can provide. However, even though the city is known for its dry, arid climate, even those living in the desert can find an oasis in the Desert Botanical Garden.

Like most botanical gardens, the Desert Botanical Garden features acres of beautiful colorful flowers of many different types and varieties. Just walking through the garden is a delight of the senses, with all the beautiful colors and enticing smells. It is a photographer's paradise, with so many unique things to photograph and the sunshine makes the lighting perfect.

For those not simply content with a stroll through the garden, there are special programs available. For example, every Monday morning at 7:00am, there is a “Birds in the Garden” tour. It teaches visitors about the many different species of birds living in the garden and how to spot them by both sight and sound.

Another fun experience is a flashlight tour. These take place Thursday and Sunday nights from June until August from 7pm-9pm and allows visitors the unique experience of seeing the garden in the dark, with just the light of flashlights to guide them.

For those interested in experiencing what it is like to be a royal, the garden hosts an Afternoon Tea. And with all the focus on Britain with the recent royal wedding, this might be a fun activity. Other events include cooking demos and the jazz in the garden program which presents jazz music every Sunday afternoon and Friday evening. While there are plenty of places to hear music in Scottsdale and in Phoenix, none may be as beautiful as at the garden. Just hearing music in such a serene and lovely setting really adds something to the experience.

The 65 acres of expansive botanical beauty is something that should be experienced by all of those living and Phoenix and even those living in Scottsdale homes are likely to find it worth the trip. The garden is open from 7:00am to 8:00pm each day and is located at 1201 North Galvin Parkway. It is $15 for adults, $6 for children, but kids under three are free, making it a great opportunity to get kids interested in the outdoors and flowers at a young age.
