Brazilian Artist Neuenschwander at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art

There are many art lovers living in Phoenix or Scottsdale homes and one thing these art lovers will want to do is head over to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary art (SMoCA) before June 5, 2011. The featured artist is Rivane Neuenschwander and her colorful installment “A Day Like Any Other.” The exhibit, which opened to the public on February 12, 2011, will continue through the first week of June.

Neuenschwander’s art encompasses the themes of perception, time, life’s fragility, existence, and the human condition. She works in many media including sculpture, collage, film, performance, painting, drawing and more. She has worked with music artists in collaborative pieces and has even induced participation from the visitors to the museum at times. Her “A Day Like Any Other” features a vibrant wall of ribbons printed with the words “I Wish Your Wish.”

One very different portion of this art show is the “Remember Your First Love” tribute. Art lovers and patrons of the museum are asked to describe their first love to a sketch artist from the police department. The work will then be included in the exhibit. Appointment times for sitting with the police artist are available Thursdays at 1:00pm or 3:30 pm and Saturdays at 10:30 am or 1:00 pm now through June 5, 2011. All "First Love" guest participants receive a complimentary ticket to the exhibit.

“In the spring, Brazilian conceptual artist Rivane Neuenschwander will come to the Valley to assist in the installation of her multi-gallery retrospective. Organized by the New Museum in New York City, the exhibition will only be shown in two other U.S. venues. The New York Times devoted nearly an entire page in its art section to her exhibition—obviously New Yorkers are enthralled by her work. We think you will be as well,” says Tim Rodgers, Director of SMoCA.
