Beautifull people....
A while ago I read something that made me sad. On another network I liked a profile picture a member had posted.
He commented that me and and another member were free to like it but that he himself thought he looked like a total wreck and that he was very unhappy with that.
The person in question did not look bad at all but this is not the point; it made me said because it shows little self esteem. On this particular network I was an admin so I did not have to vote for points since I already had all benefits. Even if I wasn't would never like it just for points.
When i like a profile picture I do that because I associate the picture of that person with his/her actions. I do not care if he looks like Adonis or a troll; if he has enriched my life in any way, I will vote for it.
I think partly commercials are to blame sending out the message you need to be young, slim and beautiful. I think it is sad that many people are unhappy because they do not fit in that perfect picture. It is a lot of BS in my opinion.
I have many friends and relatives that are fat, wrinkled or plain ugly. But I love them because they enrich my life. I am also not miss World but I know they love me. So I am not spending any money on face lifts and expensive cosmetics to make me look better. I only spend money on soap and the hair dresser.
I would lie if I would say i would not like the figure back from when I was 18. But I am not unhappy because I can't. I do not think less about myself because of that, nor do my friends and relatives.
As for the rest of man kind that judges me by my looks, I don't care less; I think they are narrow minded and shallow.

yes , its truly sad what people are going thru just becos they are not confident of how they look...blame it on the society...blame it on fashion...blame it on peer pressure...but the fact still remains, a lot lot of people have self esteem issues and those of us who have crossed that stage should learn to support people who are going throu the insecurity life... like i would say...LOVE LIFE LOVE YOURSELF ITS A GIFT.
God bless
cheers

Most people don't realize how beautiful they really are. True lasting beauty has nothing to do with the outside and everything to do with the inside. Looks will fade (Plastic surgery just ruins most people), what is on the inside never gets wrinkled aged or develops middle-age spread.

I agree 100% to and I also feel sad about it. The sad thing is also that parents focusing on appearance rather than respect and other values you describe, pass this on to their children.

Thank you for a wonderful Article. It is something that needs to be said. One of the things wrong with this world is the ideal image of beauty society has for us. It is hurtful and so untrue. I too value people for the way they enrich our lives. I taught my children to respect people for the people they are not for their color , or ethnic back ground. The choise to disassociate with someone is ok if it is based on their behavior, or their attitude toward others. You always find great qualities

What's even funnier, Paul, is that one of those members was a man but used the picture of an actress. Since he was from a country where most people from America and Europe don't know the actors, it took months before one his countrymen told me his first name is a man's name. What's even funnier is, he changed the picture but chose a woman's picture again ???

At least, he didn't choose the picture of an actor like some people do here. One more point for his honesty.

HHCTB?
The first step is always the hardest.
Perhaps you helped him take that step.

He had previous posted a picture of a cartoon. I requested to post a profile picture of him self. He did. I liked that because I want to know who I am dealing with. Reading his comment about his thoughts about the way he looked made me apreciate it even more. He had to cross a personal barrier to do so.

HHCTB?
Kind of wondered if I should TOP!
But I did. But that is just how I am.
Why the hell did he post the picture?
