Got A Brand?... Who Cares!
Consumers in all niches genuinely care about that brand, and use it because of the positive feeling they get from doing so. Marketing your brand to people who aren't interested in your niche is pointless since you will most likely find it difficult to sell your wares.
What you need to do is figure out exactly "who" your audience is, what they're all about, what makes them happy? where can you find them? how do they use your product? would they still enjoy your brand even if it was presented to them in a completely different format? what's in it for them?
We can all name off our favorite brands in seconds, list the qualities we appreciate about them, and tell how they affect our everyday life. We choose these brands because they fulfill our needs, wants, or desires. It is of the utmost importance to build your brand around these same specifications.
Your brand may not be for everyone, however when you find your target market that needs your brand, those are the qualities your brand should offer.
Brands are created to make our lives easier, more manageable, and convenient. They usually evolve as consumer demand or technology change, but the core reason for it's creation must still fulfill the initial need. Even if you change the packaging on your brand, what's inside the package should contain all of the ingredients that your clients enjoy.
I'm using the video below as an example of finding your niche, knowing what they love, and giving it to them. Marketing your brand can be as much fun when you follow the proven formula of success. Enjoy!

A very good blog and all of it very true. If it is a brand you believe in you will find a target audience to reach. We all like products for different reasons. At one time I sold Avon for a bout a month. Now if you sell a product you should use it yourself. This was before their hypo-allergenic line. I had to quit because I was allergic to the makeup. Well today Avon is much more than makeup. But it will probably never be for me. But I agree with you there are many choices and many reasons for

Hi Thomas, Exactly! It's not productive marketing to people who aren't interested. It's more fruitful to spend the time learning about where to find the people that are actually going to want the product/service in your niche.

Hi CoachTeo, Thank you for stopping in and leaving your feedback. I would have to agree with Philippe that rebranding is indeed another subject because it involves changing either in a big way, or by making small changes to the original brand. This blog is strictly for the initial branding process.

@Peaceful - Thank you. I look forward to additional comments that can support the importance of creating your own unique brand also. It's so important to success.
@Cheryl - so true, band-aid is what people ask for automatically because it's a brand that is firmly established in our minds even if that bandage is from another manufacturer.
@Khazars - Thank you. The clip is awesome! did you notice that they kept calling her Karen even after she was revealed as Jewel? new package, same product

We can also talk about how to brand oneself. The way you present yourself, your words, body language, clothes, the way you shake shake hands. All these define your personal brand. In Internet Marketing, it's the quality of your writing, graphics, customer support. This blog here is an example. People reading it and other blogs by Genesis will realize she makes excellent use of words and images to get her message through. Excellent branding, IMHO.

Yes you want to brand yourself really good products brand themselves to the point that they are synonymous with the product. The two are so closely related that just saying the product name with make people think of the product.
Band-Aid is a great example of branding to this level, When you cut yourself what do you ask for? An adhesive bandage or a band-aid. Even if you use a different brand of adhesive bandage you probably still call it a band-aid.
You may use Huggies but If you ask
