SEO London: Position Opportunities For Alternative People
Students from under-represented ethnic minority groups are given the opportunity to participate in internship programs through Sponsors for Educational Opportunity London. This organization is partnered with many of the banks and law firms in London to offer undergraduates the option to apply for programs that provide extensive training, networking, and mentoring. SEO London was first established in the year 2000.
This not-for-profit organization was established in the year 2000 and provides more than 80 percent of their interns with full-time positions at the firms the organization is partners with. Four different programs offered include; Investment Banking, Corporate Law, Professional Services, and Technology and Programming.
Professional Services - SEO provides access to the recruiters and managers of many partner firms for this 6 to 8 week internship. This is still a paid internship, despite being somewhat shorter than other programs offered. Business areas in which placement is offered include; audit, consulting, and tax.
Professional Services - This program is a bit shorter than some of the others. Even though it lasts 6 to 8 weeks, instead of 10, the internship is still a paid one and offers students the exposure to important people at the partner firms who sponsor this program. Placement in business areas, such as consulting, audit, and tax is also part of the program.
Investment Banking - The business areas to choose from for this 10 week internship include; operations, trading, finance, structuring, private wealth management, asset management, risk management, sales, and investment banking division. Besides offering a program that provides a paid internship, SEO also includes training and mentoring as well. Some of the leading investment banks in London are partners for this program and their representatives assist the undergraduates with its completion.
Technology and Programming - Students are able to choose between a 10 week internship during the summer months or a year-long placement. They are provided with training and a mentor who is a senior in the industry they are interested in. This program places students in technology businesses that are in some of London's top investment banks. These placements include Developer/Programmer, Infrastructure/System Engineer, or Business Analyst.
Internships begin during the summer, so applications must be returned by the previous winter. Applicants that are accepted will undergo various training. There is a requirement of 80 hours of interactive online training, as well as the standard technical training. Combining these training methods with interpersonal skills is part of the program design developed by SEO. The training for each type of business is different, so undergraduates will be participating in training that is specific to their internship.
SEO London interns will also have extensive training in PowerPoint and Excel, as well as an intro to various research tools. Before the internship actually begins, students have the option to participate in a 3 day business-specific training. This 3 day session is devised to allow students to combine their theory and knowledge and practice using it before they start the internship. Each of these programs has provided fantastic opportunities for individuals who may otherwise not have been offered such an internship.
