Zenith Bank WPL: First Deepwater beat boastful First Bank 63-61
Reigning Champion of FIBA Africa Zone-III First Deepwater basketball club Wednesday handed down a bitter 63-61 defeat to First Bank basketball club in the first phase of the 2009/2010 Nigeria Basketball Federation organized Zenith Women Premier League in the city of Kano.
The game watched by a capacity crowd that thronged the sports hall of the Sani Abacha stadium in Kofa-Mata, Kano was the climax of the Day-2 programme of the Nigeria women league.
First Bank basketball club coach, Adewumi Aderemi who had boasted earlier in the year that his side would not drop a game enroute to its clinching a tenth straight title was made to eat his words as the Oil and Gas girls ran ring round his more exposed girls late into the third quarter when they (First Deepwater) girls took charge of the game and never looked back.
Coach Adewumi who thought the game would be another walk-over for his side could not believe what hit him and his wards as he could not provide answer to the offense and deep defense of the First Deepwater side.

Customs had a narrow win over FCT Angels at 63-60 on Tuesday but failed to maintain the tempo as it fell to AHIP basketball club of Kano Wednesday by 62-39 points, Nigeria Immigration ladies were surprise winners over FCT Angels Wednesday with a 71-36 posting.
In today's matches, Immigration will open the floor against Plateau Rocks in the morning while Sunshine Angels and First Deepwater play the second match. The third match of the day will be between Customs and Delta Force while First Bank and FCT Angels will play the last match Thursday, with AHIP Queens taking a break due to the absence of Dolphins from this first stage.
