FIBA Africa name Cte dIvoire as host of 2011 Afrobasket for Men
Cte dIvoire has been officially named as host the 26th edition of 2011 FIBA Africa Nations Championship for men (Afrobasket 2001).
The decision was taken during the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of Africa basketball ruling body, FIBA Africa held March 17 2010 in Abidjan, Cte dIvoire.
Three countries included Cte dIvoire, Madagascar and Nigeria applied to host the Afrobasket 2011 and the decision to handle the hosting right to Cote dIvoire was reached after the Executive Committee of the highest decision body of the slamming and dunking game in Africa fourth meeting where the committee went through the bidding files of each of the three countries.
With the award of the 2011 edition of the biggest basketball showpiece in Africa to Cte dIvoire it bring to two the number of times the FIBA Africa Zone-III nation will be playing host to the gathering of Africa stars after staging the 13th edition in 1985.
A deadline has been fixed for the end of June 2010 for the 2009 runner-up to start the building works of it new playing arena and the launching of the activities relating to the event or it will forfeit the right to stage the Championship to Madagascar who staged the 2009 edition of the Women Championship won by Senegal.
