So we've all come across "So and So's" free report, or "Guru Joe's story about how he made millions."  These websites all come on a standard sales page, with big bold headlines, cheesy pictures, and a sales pitch.  What are they doing with these sites? and do they work?

These are called capture pages, and if they are designed properly, they work very well.  Here's the secret behind Internet Guru Joe:

Let's say Guru Joe has a Travel Business that uses geometric progression (basic network marketing) to earn commission.  So he writes this report about how to save 25% on every airline/hotel purchase.  He gives it away for free! But not without getting the persons e-mail address. So he makes a capture page.

The capture page says something like "To learn how to save 25% on every travel purchase, fill in your email below and it will be delivered straight to your inbox."  When Person A enters their e-mail, this gives Guru Joe permission to contact them.  Guru Joe sends over his free report.

From here, there are a few methods that Guru Joe could use to make money on this person.  One way is that his travel report will only contain a snippet of information, and he will require the user to pay for the rest, or sign up for his business, or something along those lines.

The other way is that Guru Joe is a great writer, and writes a very compelling and detailed report, convincing person A to trust him.  In his report, Guru Joe sprinkles a link here and there, hoping that Person A will click on them.

Also, since he has permission to send Person A email, Guru Joe will probably send periodic emails to person A with more links, hoping to grab the reader that way.

Lastly, it's possible that Guru Joe gave Person A permission to re-distribute the free report, making person A able to generate leads himself.  Not only does this get Guru Joe Leads, but it gets Person A leads, which, in the end, still make money for Guru Joe.

Guru Joe probably spreads the word about his business by either paid advertising, or article advertising.  Either way, the "free report" shows up all over the place, and Guru Joe has given himself quite a healthy list of leads.

Does this method work?

Absolutely.
