Rules for Marketing on Social Networks
1. For marketing, it's imperative that it's easy to make friends on a social network. There must also be intillegent forums and chats. I like using Ning social networks and CafeMom. Some social networks make it difficult to make new internet friends and the forums and chats are full of nothing but argumentative people.
2. Make friends with people by commenting on their blog, their profile, or something else about them. Do not introduce yourself by saying "Hi, my name is Bob. This is my business and you need it." That's for later, not for now. If you do that first, people will still only think of you as a pesky sales person.
3. Listen to people in forums and chats. Answer their questions. Let them get to know YOU, after all, that's what your selling, not a product or business opportunity. When it's natural, bring up your business. Someone will want to know about it, and when they ask, they are welcoming your spiel.
4. DO make sure to leave links and information around your profile so people can access it, but do not make your profile ONLY about your business. Again, if you are a giant advertisment, you'll frustrate people that would have joined you.
5. Write blogs. In my experience, friends are more likely to read blogs that are either about you, or offer THEM help in some way. Sure, you can blog about how great your company is, but it's more effective to blog about a specific way that your company can help a network marketer succeed. FOr example, I like to blog about how my company builds your downline deep first, and wide second (instead of wide then deep, which never gets very deep). I usually don't even mention the company until the end.
I hope this helps those of you using social networks to succeed.

Hi Teresa,
Finding a community driven network with real people is basically essential! As far as profiles go, what is probably best is just simply introducing yourself with a little general information about you....and then leaving a link for people to learn more about what you do.
