Why Crime Pays!!
So why is it that crime pays?
I thought I would vent my thoughts on this topic.
I have always lived my life on the right side of the law, and although I dont come from a rich background I haev always strived to do better, I made a point of going to university, and getting certification in ym professional field. Yet, why is it that people today dont haev the same values.
Lets take a kid at school, why is it that kids think they dont have to attend school. I think that alot of parents haev different values than mine did, I mean if I stayed off school I needed a good reason, illness, death or something jsut as serious. Now it seems that kids dont want to go to school.
Now my thought on this is 2 fold.
1. Kids now think that education is not important as most of them use computers and think they dont need to get a basic education because they will just work with computer after leaving school, and unfortunately alot of people working in IT have the same thougts. Either they are self taught about IT or they just dont think hands on education is the right route.
What this creates is a market place for people without education to get into, I remember not so long ago you need to be qualified to university level to get a job.
2. My next opinion is that the government doesn't believe in education, as if you are an adult without a basic education you can get one for free. The government will help you get your GCSE's for free. Now if you want to do anything else and already have a good education you have to pay for it yourself, say you want to learn how to paint.
Dont get me wrong I dont disagree with this situation, I just think that kids know that when they are suppossed to be attending school, if they dont they can get the education when they need to use it. This creates the current mindset of kids staying of school.
You may be asking - How Does This Mean Crime Pays?
Simple - lets take a kids who doesn't go to school, they are already doing crime by not attending school, and when they finish they are going to go one of two ways.
1 - they will choose to get educated
2 - they will go into crime
What I find really frustrating is this, I approached a well known organisation in the UK about 10 years ago abotu funding to start my business, this is the one connected to a member of the royal family.
Now I was told that they offer different types of help, for different types of people. They said they offer grants for new start ups which are non repayable. I thought that sounded great, I could get the help and assistance to start my business and not have a great risk.
Ok so why is this so bad?
Well when I applied to the organisation I was told that due to the fact that I was well educated and do not have a criminal record I could not get the grant. What I could do is loan the money, and have to pay it back with interest. They did say that if I was not as educated or had a criminal record I would have been able to get a grant.
Why this annoys me alot, is the fact that the business actually didn't work out and I have this loan to repay. Just because I am not a criminal and wanted to get educated. Hows That Fair?
I know that if more people knew how this organisation worked it would not be as recognised as it is.
The next thing I find annoying is that, whenever a criminal gets punished for what they have done, the sentence never fits the crime. Say if a criminal has made a few million doing drugs, they get caught and get a few years in jail. Do you really think that this person could earn thsi type of money each year o match the punishment, i.e if they made £1000000 and get 5 years, that a massive £200000 per year. Juding by what you see about prisons today i just dont think that they are enough of a threat as they used to be. I mean having your own TV, talking with friends, playing pool, using weights, this sounds a lot like life outside prison. Only without the expense.
This is not to mention the fact that in prison you get FREE education, which you have to pay for in the outside world, you also get to vote. I find this thing daft, not to mention the human rights side of things. After all what Human Rights has a criminal shown someone by stabbing them. So why should criminals get the same rights, they should not have a right to influence the oustide world or be allowed to use Human Rights Laws whislt in prison. As they did not show this to other people.
The act that crime pays, is also reflected within other areas in life. Lets take farmers. I know there are a lot of honest and hard working farmers out there. But what I find hard to stomach is that farmers always drive Land Rovers, and not the army kind the leather seats air con kind, and they always seem to have a barn to convert.
What gets me about this is this. Farmers always pay cash in hand to the workers when they get a barn converted, this means that tax office is missing necessary revenue. Yet the same farmer will be receiving subsidies from the same goverment, for their business.
I just dont see why farmers think not paying tax is a good thing, no one likes paying tax but the government woudl run out of money if we didn't. After all I bet that most farmer don't declare all their income. I know farmers that go on holiday to Dubai, is that the actions of someone with no money.
I have to say also that if a farmer cannot produce and sell their product without being subsidised they should be forced to sell up, Have you ever seen a farm go out of business? after all my business competes with others, and our price would be a lot lower if we got a goverment handout. I mean I know farmers who have coverted or sold off the farm buildings and kept the fields and one farmer I know has even let his fields, and continued to apply for and receive subsidies for the land, even though they are not farming it.
In Closing
I just think that we need to get back to whats important in life, we need an educated society, where the punishments for crime are just that punishments.
Dont get me wrong I am not attacking farmers I just cant stomach the fact that not so long ago farmers were seen as just that, farmers now they think they are not farmers but land owners. Sorry to the hard working farmers out there I know farming is a hard industry to be in, I just think we need to do whats best for everyone, not just ourselves.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.
Thanks
