Memory Lane & Hazard Signs
I don't know about you, but I think Memory Lane should be as cluttered with warning and hazard signs as the rest of the roads. (apologies if you don't live in UK, but every road here is always full of traffic cones)
I was expecting delivery of new bed today so had to get rid of the old one. But the drawers in the bed were full of stuff that I hadn't looked at in years. Of course, I would go through and check it all, in case it suddenly became important after all this time!
some of it really was important. Gifts and cards made by my children when they were young. Photographs of my family, old friends, places visited, etc. All happy thoughts of days gone by. Especially the gifts from my children, wow, some of their early attempts at card making are just so fabulous.
But also in there were old love letters and cards. And yes, they also were from happy times, but alas those times are gone now. And this is where the hazard signs should have come in. It is so hard looking back at such stuff, and not thinking, 'what if', 'if only', 'i should have'.
So I cried the tears as we all do I guess from time to time. And then packed everything up and put it away again. Because all of these memories are important, they are to be cherished and prized and cared for in a world where so often it seems, people are only interested in today.
I don't recommend living in the past, and we do need to take care of today and plan for tomorrow. But just sometimes, a walk down memory lane, reminds us of all we hold dear still. And how lucky we are to have such wonderful memories that have been a part of our lives.
Think that whatever you do today, you are building up your memories for tomorrow, next week, next year, next lifetime. Be careful to build up a store of happy memories and not sad regrets.

I don't really have much of a collection of memory things, because I've moved
so often. Lots of things have also been broken or lost over the years.
Some of the back streets in my mind do have warnings though, such as
"Do not go here" and "Keep Out - bad memory". There are plenty of the
good kind, which I'd much rather visit. :-)

I've never kept a memory box or drawer or anything. I envy your walk down memory lane, to a degree. I do have photos from days gone by, but no fancy photo albums...just the pictures of my family and me. Perhaps I should take them out more often!

Guess we all are human underneath, regardless of gender.
I had forgotten I had written this. But it was good to read it again, and remind myself I am storing up memories now, that I will look back on in the future.

A used to be hard about these kind of things, called "womanstuff". Well, not anymore. I notice, nowadays, that I often drift off into memories when I find some old book or some trinket that once belonged to someone now dead.... I guess I am human after all. ;)
