Are Traffic Exchanges Worth the Effort?

   I have been a member of many traffic exchanges. At one time, I thought they were the ONLY way to advertise. There is no doubt, they are very time-consuming and pretty boring. Over the years, as newer exchanges emerged, the owners added all kinds of features and gimmicks to alleviate the boredom. We can now hear jokes, or race, or go on treasure hunts. Timers are being reduced from 30, to 20 to even 10 seconds per view. But, do these changes make for effective surfing results? Is the time spent with these exchanges worth the effort? Yes, I know there are all kinds of reports out there to "effectively use traffic exchanges", to never use these traffic programs for your MAIN business -use them to build your list and get referrals for the exchanges, certainly never use those "auto" exchange programs. I've also read the tips about "tab browsers" and creating splash pages (those quick, attention grabbing displays). But after all that, is the time spent worth the effort?

   First, not all exchanges are created equal and you need to "track" your efforts at each exchange. Joining a ton of exchanges, spending the time to "surf" for credits at each one and NOT knowing if they are bringing you the results you want or need, ARE a waste of your valuable time.

   Second, be aware that while "auto" surf programs are NOT recommended, surfers DO open six or more windows at a time and jump from "tab to tab" to maximize their efforts for several exchanges at once. How they view a person's site jumping like this I don't know, but your site HAS to be able to grab someone's attention in a matter of seconds. And, because these multiple tabs are open, many surfers turn their volume controls to 'off' while surfing, so if the emphasis of your advertising is a voice video...you ARE wasting your time.

   And finally, if you decide to "upgrade" (pay money each month for greater exposure) you'd better be darn sure you ARE producing results. Otherwise you are not only wasting your time but YOUR money as well.
