10 steps before your foot steps in Thailand
by Boyan Minchev Travel BloggerThailand is part of paradise, but to enjoy it you need to prepare well in advance.
1. Plan your trip in the so-called "cool season" (December-March), which by our criteria is a vibrant summer.
2. If you want to travel to Thailand, a tourist visa is required. It entitles you to a 60-day stay. Traveling in less than 20 days is pointless if you want to immerse yourself in the spirit of the country.
3. Avoid popular destinations, or at least don't devote to them all the time. Their tradition has given way to European comforts. However, keep in mind that mountainous areas in the north are for extreme tourism.
4. Get ready to taste the food of Thailand. Genuine Asian cuisine is a challenge for every European. If you are too cautious, you better choose another destination. In Thailand, cooking is everywhere - on the streets, markets, stations, pickups, boats ... this is the nightmare of every RIPCPH inspector. Don't worry too much, even if you try all kinds of fried insects and juices of unseen fruit, you will not feel bad. However, you didn't cross half of the globe to sit in a pizzeria.
5. Consider the distances when booking hotels. You may find yourself spending several evenings aboard a ship, bus or train, especially if you are traveling to the islands or farther from Bangkok. The transportation is convenient, very well organized and accessible. Of course, there is food included in the ticket price.
6. Do not take to much luggage. You can also buy suitable clothes from there if needed, and quite cheaply. Contrary to expectations, you will not encounter an insect invasion. However, wear repellent for your peace of mind. Sun protection products and a pillow are required. Most important in the luggage will be comfortable slippers / flip flops that are easy to put on and off. You will quickly get used to the fact that in stores the shoes remain at the doorstep. There is no need to mention temples at all.
7. Study folk psychology. Touching, your feet and the head is unacceptable, and the high-pitched voice. In Thailand, even the children are quiet. In the land of smiles, everyone is very attached to their king, but not fanatically, but with sincere respect. You will find evidence every step of the way, and it is decent to treat it with respect.
8. Be sure to see the beauty of the underwater world. Many dive centers offer snorkel or bottle-diving near the shore. If you like this sport, spend a few days on the boat in the company of enthusiastic people like you, also with reservation. With more luck, you will see mantles, huge turtles, and colorful fish, corals and small sharks. On the spot, you will get information about the dangerous species, but you can read about the scorpionfish yourself, for example.
9. Learn to ride a scooter. This will greatly facilitate your movement, especially in small islands like Ko Tao, where there are no taxis here and there. Motorbike rent is not high.
10. Check out one of Thailand's reserves. Pre-arranged will save you a wander. The hotels also provide transportation to central points nearby. Consider whether you would like to see farms for elephants, snakes, tigers or bet on wildlife. Khao Sok National Park offers views worthy of any meditation. A guide will accompany you in the jungle to show you rare plants and animals. An overnight stay at a low-rise home in the company of apes is exotic. Getting away from civilization is the ultimate holiday and relaxation.
And if this is not paradise! Like a Thai massage. It combines tenderness and strength and perfectly represents the people of Siam - smiling, peaceful, but also stubborn. After this experience, you will realize why the greeting is a bow. Have a nice trip!
