10 benefits of life coaching

  1. Be listened to, deeply

There are people in our lives who we go to for advice, conversation, to bounce thoughts off and more. It is wonderful that they are there to support us. What makes a life coach different though, is the style in which they are trained to listen to you. WIthout a bias, without personal agenda, without judgment, without attachment to your story. A life coach listens to you on a very deep level to unravel and understand your own, unique thought processes and patterns, and create optimised or new ones.

  1. Make your day to day more manageable

One of the greatest benefits of life coaching is, very simply, greater self awareness and understanding of yourself. So many of us live our lives on autopilot without stopping to consider why we might be how we are, and where we actually want to go. Developing this level of awareness can diffuse a whole host of low level stressors or challenges you face (like stress, communication, low level anxiety, disconnection from or frustration towards your feelings) and make your day to day more manageable.

  1. Develop deeper self trust

How many of us spend way too much time doubting ourselves and our decisions? It’s not surprising, considering how overloaded we are everyday with messages from other people, the media, culture, work expectations etc. about how we should be and how we should live our lives.

  1. Make difficult decisions

On a somewhat practical level, a life coach can facilitate your ability to make various kinds of decisions you need to make in your life. There are various tools - from pros and cons lists, exercises that widen your perspective, seeing the longer vs shorter term impacts, or experiencing what it would feel like fully to have each option of decision.

  1. Navigate your way through challenge, change or transition

Many people come to life coaching through a period of challenge, change or transition. You could call this type of work the life coach’s heartland, as it often requires in depth inquiry in to life as you have known it and a wide exploration of what needs to change. A life coach can work with you on perspective, the beliefs you have about yourself and life, visions for the future, goal setting, managing old patterns and emotions - amongst many other deeper, more transformational things.

  1. Make choices about your life, rather than reactions

One of the greatest realisations I see my clients have during our life coaching work, is that they have a larger degree of choice than they thought in how they and their life works. As we become more aware of and more deeply connect with our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, we can come to realise, at our own pace, that we are not our thoughts, feelings of behaviours. We have power to influence and work with them - rather than them controlling us. This gives us greater sense of choice in our life.

  1. Spot signs earlier

A life coach can help you identify your triggers and put toolkits in place for you to spot signs of difficulty or slipping in to habits earlier. This means you will be able to self-soothe, self-regulate, and seek support sooner when you enter a challenging patch.

  1. Improve the satisfaction of your relationships

One of the greatest challenges people face in relationships is communication. Saying how you feel can be scary. Bringing up a conflict can feel delicate. Asking for what you want can feel shameful. Alternatively, saying how you feel can lead to deeper sense of understanding between people. Bringing up a conflict can diffuse the issue much earlier. Asking for what you want can create much greater satisfaction with your situation. A life coach can help you navigate and explore how you can more freely express yourself in order to build communication skills.

  1. Make peace with yourself

We hold a lot of negative beliefs, shame, fear, feelings of unworthiness, and doubt about ourselves. Often, we hide these things away in the shadows, stuff them down inside us, and don’t feel we can let anyone else see them. This is part of being a human being with feelings, an ego, a heart that just wants to feel loved and like it belongs. When you work with a life coach, you will hopefully realise that you really are, very, very normal, and that you can go on the journey to make peace with the parts of yourself that you may have found difficult for a long time.

  1. Love yourself back together

I’m a holistic life coach, so my approach is very much about connecting all the parts of you. People often come to me with a specific goal, or area of their life they want to work on. What we realise, is that no part of you is alone - everything is linked and there are patterns, stories, behaviours, feelings that show up in various areas of your life. Life coaching can support you in seeing yourself, not as broken parts that need fixing, but someone whole that has everything they already need inside them. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of support to see it and believe it.
