Masjid-al-Nabawi is one of the holiest mosques for Muslims in the entire world. Not only Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) took part in its construction himself but also it is the resting place of Prophet (SAWW); Roza-e-Rasool is present inside Masjid. It remains among the few largest mosques of the world in which tens of millions of people arrive every year. 1. Masjid-al-Nabawi is 100 times the size of its original structure.

Masjid-al-Nabawi is now 100 times larger than its original structure. As a matter of fact, the total area of the mosque today is almost equivalent to the entire area of old Madinah city. 

2. First place in Arab to have electricity.

When electricity’s supply was announced for the Arabian Peninsula, Masjid-al-Nabawi was the first place to receive the proper supply. 

3. 2nd Largest Mosque on Earth.

Masjid-al-Nabawi is the 2nd largest mosque in the world; the first one being Masjid-al-Haram. Yet, some expansion plans are under discussion. 

4. An older constructed yet completely preserved section lies here.

Distinguished by its heavy elements of Ottoman architecture, pillars and design; this part of Masjid-al-Nabawi is towards the southern end. 

5. The first construction of the mosque took 8 months to complete. 

When Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) laid the foundation for the construction of Masjid-al-Nabawi; it took 8 months to build it completely. He (SAWW) also participated in heavy construction work. 

6. Presence of 2 Domes, and 3 Mihrabs.

Previously there was no dome in Masjid-al-Nabawi but now there are 2. From white to a purple-blue colour; the dome observed many changes but now it only remains painted in green colour. Usually, every masjid has only 1 mihrab but Masjid-al-Nabawi has 3 of them.

7. More than a Mosque.

During the Times of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW), Masjid-al-Nabawi was more than a mosque. It served its purpose as a;

A court.
Community centre for the public.
A detention centre for prisoners.
A school.

8. The room of Hazrat Fatima (RA).

Items belonging to Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) were kept in this room. However, when Madinah was under siege during World War 1, the Ottoman commander had many rare items evacuated to Istanbul, Turkey. Today they can be seen in Topkapi Palace.

9. Full of Signs.

Masjid-al-Nabawi is full of signs that have their distinctive historical, spiritual and religious significance. Some famous points include; the Weeping pillar, Riyaad-ul-Jannah, etc.

10. There was a fire breakout.

There was a damaging fire breakout in Masjid-al-Nabawi some centuries ago. It had affected a major portion of Masjid but was restored afterwards.
