I like to write articles and blocks but since my native language is not Englisch I am a bit handicaped.
When I write in Dutch I often use on liners but many sayings that exist in Dutch language do not exist in English language and vice versa.
FE. When it is raining very hard you say: It's raining cats a dogs".
We have in Dutch a very different line to say the same,
I am looking for a site with English onliners and sayings and what they mean. Who can help?

It sounds good, how about create a group for English Corner? We may have different language groups, such as "English Corner", "Spanish Corner", "Chinese Corner", and etc. Sometime we need to marketing product or service in other language. It makes sense if we have such groups for improving language skills. Oct 21st 2010 12:17 |

Thanks for the feedback. @sean i will take a look on these sites. Appropriate onliners can lighten up an article. So can humor as Cheryl pointed out somewhere. @Wincer this is a good idea but there will not much demand for Dutch I guess. Oct 21st 2010 12:24 |

Anyone set up these groups yet? I would love to do a blog post about it. Might be a nice way to promote APSense too. Cindy Nov 1st 2010 11:27 |

I do not have the answer you seek but if what you have mentioned is your only problem, then write the dutch translation and explain it. That way, we will appreciate your language and culture more. That is the beauty of the internet; you learn about cultures and peoples you may never visit in your lifetime. Nov 3rd 2010 04:37 |

Quotes are also a good way to create variety and "texture" in articles and blog posts. I found one a while ago that really suits me - "A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands" I always thought that would be a great quote to use in an article promoting the healthy chocolate site I see around sometimes. @Louise Gotta love it!!! What a vision to behold as well. A picture is worth a 1000 words... Well that would be a great Picture indeed. Me with Chocolate in both hand, gosh I hope they only show it from the waist up! Cindy Nov 3rd 2010 07:48 |
