Health isn't all it's cracked up to be . . .

After a week in which the temperature inside my apartment seldom failed to reach 40ºC, I have been amused by the silly things that people have been saying.

One of the silliest came from a man who was standing under my balcony (in the shade) who was calling his wife on his mobile to come and pick him up. It seems it was too hot for him to walk the mile and a half home after a few hours in the bar. What was the silly thing he said?

"You have got no idea how hot it is!"

Yes. A mile and a half away is definitely in the temperate zone!

The next thing I knew, he was shouting at his mates that his "E¬{]}€@ wife had refused to collect him. I was so pleased that his mates had no sympathy for him.

To try to help him, I told him to ask for a two litre bottle of water at the bar so that he could keep himself cool by sprinkling it on his clothes - it works for me - but had to burst out laughing when he said he was not a fit man and that would cause him complications. He wouldn't elaborate so I treated his claim with the respect it so obviously deserved.

But why are healthy people so reluctant to enjoy their health? I can't remember ever being healthy so I am not able to put myself in their situation so maybe health isn't all it is cracked up to be!

P.S. Another stroke of serendipity this morning.

It had been extremely hot while I was walking my dogs and I knew I had become dehydrated. As soon as we got back home, I headed for the kitchen to get a drink. I remember turning on the tap . . . .

The next thing I remember is trying to get up off the floor (marble is very slippery when wet) out of a huge puddle. I had two soggy, hairy critters slipping and sliding all over the place and I had cut the inside of my cheek, somehow. I must have been 'out of it' for 30 to 40 minutes but, as full awareness set in, I realised that the water had cooled the apartment quite significantly. I've used water on the floors before to cool the place down, but never in such copious quantities.

Guess who won't be so conservative in future!

sorry to hear about your slip, but i bet lying on the marble DID cool you down! Thankfully it wasn't any worse.

about the man from the bar... you just can't help some people, after a while you realize that they are wallowing in their misery for the same reason a pig wallows in the muck....They enjoy it!
