Review on Screencast.com online storage

Today, I connected to a SM site where I registered recently. I don't go there often because I find it slow.

I had a nice surprise when I looked at a message from a fellow member.

She was using screencast.com.

At first, I wondered if it was another tool for making screencast videos.

I was using Jing until recently, when I saw Sue Tamani promote SCREENR.com, it's a web-based session recording site, as easy as Jing, but with some advantages.

Well, to my surprise, screencast.com is not a tool for recording videos.

It's a site tailor-made to store videos.

With a free account, you get 2 gigs of online storage.

I immediately put what I consider to be my best videos on the site.

You can create folders. The option is in the menu at the left. When you click on it, you get to choose the folder name, give it a description, and also other features.

You have 4 options for security : public, hidden, password and authenticate.

So far, my videos are for teaching features of APSense, some other sites, and Internet Marketing tricks and tips. So, all my videos are public.

I LOVE SCREENCAST.COM !

There's an intro video, it lasts 4 minutes. It explains the main features.

For each video you store, you get a choice of a URL to put in emails, or embed code to put the videos on your sites or blogs.

One more exciting tool in my arsenal !

Phillippe I have lng respected the support you offer to APsense. I have also used Jing and enjoyed the ability to capture screenshots to study from.

A question please is there a time limit at screencat for the length of each video that you are allowed within the storage parameter?

Hi Tony,

Screencast.com is a site for storage of videos.

Screenr.com is like Jing, i.e. a tool to record screencast videos. It has the same 5-minute limit as Jing, is as easy to learn although different cause web-based. You get higher quality image than with Jing, and no need to upload video anywhere, cause it's on screenr.com site. You can out embed code on your sites or blogs, even into articles or subjects at APSense.

I use Windows 7.

Screencast.com is just a storage site, I'm pretty sure it will work with Windows XP.

That should work fine for starters, but when you start getting multiple simultaneous viewers or requiring more bandwidth and storage, you can get very inexpensive hosting from Amazon Web Services by using S3 or even Cloudfront for much better response times for your users. I think my entire bill last month was $4.

@Oldbuddy, I have started considering Amazon S3, but haven't taken the time to understand how to use it yet. Thanks for the tip ! :)
