Will capacitors be eliminated?

by Alan Lin electronic engineer
Whether the capacitor will be eliminated, the answer is uncertain, but certainly not now. It should be a long time later, why do you say so? Here is a review of the development history of capacitors. The volume of capacitors has evolved from the previous Leiden bottle to the current chip capacitors. The volume ranges from a large water bottle to a few millimeters of chip capacitors, which has experienced a history of about 300 years.

Many types of capacitors are used in the manufacture of electronic devices, and they play different roles in the circuit. There are many types of capacitors, such as fixed capacitors, variable capacitors. The function of capacitors from the beginning of storage and discharge to the new functions of frequency division, filtering, etc. are all a group of hard-working engineers and continue to innovate the role and possibility of capacitors. Until now, in mobile phones, capacitors must be used as long as the devices are powered. Capacitor engineers have also reduced the size of capacitors and maintained their original performance, allowing consumers to use more portable electronic devices.

Will the future capacitors develop into intelligent ones? The answer is yes, and now the first intelligent capacitors have been born. Just because it is expensive and bulky, there is no way to sell it in large quantities on the market. The working principle of intelligent capacitors is to adjust according to the capacity withstand voltage that the equipment wants, without delaying the development and production because of the circuit board selection. Also, the raw materials of capacitors are now implanted into the chip, so that the chip inherits the basic performance of the capacitor, and there is no need to install a capacitor independently on the device. So maybe someday in the future capacitors will really withdraw from the stage of history.
