For every foodie, India is a land of vibrant colors, rich aroma and complex flavors of Indian food menu. There are more than a thousand reasons to love this spicy-land than just cholabhatura or a masala dosa. Here are five of the main reasons that will force a foodie to visit India at least once in his life. But if you have already been there, be aware that the following reasons might draw you towards the sub-continent for amma’s recipes and literally into the kitchen:

India is a land of celebration

The length and breadth of this country mean they are rich with changing climates and thus environments. This works ideally for them as they grow a wide variety of grain and other foods thus adding to their traditional festive recipes. Every day is a celebration for Indians and when it comes to celebration who will forget the food. Indians are very particular about food and spices and therefore they associate each of their festival with a sweet dish or food item.

Spices- not spicy

Indian food across the globe is known for its spicy-nature and the use of herbs in the West. However, for past few years, people across the globe have realized that Indian cuisine is more than just the spices or the use of dried red chilli. There is a lot to Indian cuisine related to making a tandoori marinade for chicken out of a lemon with using a number of other spices like yoghurt, garlic cloves, cardamom etc.

Use of sweet and sour

The most important part of Indian cuisine is how the cooks use sweet or sour. The curd or the yoghurt is a staple in most of the dishes or curries in India. The konkan beaches in the west use yoghurt, lemon juice, vinegar, tamarind, mango etc for bringing that sour flavor to their food. Not only this, the idlis in the south, the bhatura in the north, the dhokla in the west boast of its tangy flavor to the use of these things. Not only this, the fermented lentil and rice batter add tang to the crispy dosas.

Street Food of India

Even the food available on the street defines the rhythm of country’s heartbeat. Use of cashew, pepper, cloves, cardamom, tamarind etc on the street adds to the flavor of the food available on the street. Who cannot escape the tangy fragrance of pani puri, which is the most favorite street food of India? Made from semolina, wheat flour, the puffed balls are filled with tamarind water with boiled potatoes and sweet sauce.

Never-ending variety of bread

Indians love bread, whether it’s a chapatti, parantha, naan, tandoori roti, etc. These are the most sought-after out of which naan are eaten with a lot of variation. It can be a butter naan, stuffed naan, ghee naan, garlic naan etc.
