The Culture Defining Healthy Indian cooking

India is known for its cuisine across the world and over here we are talking about healthy Indian cooking.

Indian always boasts of its cultural diversity. Every region of India enjoys a different taste and use of different herbs, spices. Indian cuisine is the richest and the well-known around the world for its large assortment of dishes. Food, in India, means a fabulous use of spices and herbs.  Not only does the taste of food vary, but the cooking style also varies from region to region and is divided into North and South Indian cuisines majorly. Staple food items of India include wheat, rice, pulses etc. Though the modern palette of Indians has changed a lot, the core of the taste remains the same.

Over the last decade, globalization has led Indians to travel new places and therefore they have learned new styles of cooking and as a result, there have been a massive influx of new herbs, dishes etc into the Indian restaurants. With numerous Indian chefs and cooks collaborating with the global cooks, Indianisation of varied international cuisines is visible. However, here we will talk more about healthy Indian cooking:

Bengali Cuisine

Bengali Cuisine is known for its amazing use of five essential spices also known as panchphoron i.e. spices, namely mustard, fenugreek, cumin, aniseed, and black cumin. Bengali food is known for its combination of sweet and spicy flavors.

Gujarati Cuisine


Gujarati cuisine is mainly vegetarian and the food so cooked has a high nutritional value. A typical Gujarati thali will comprise of different scrumptious dishes. Gujarati cuisine has a lot of Indian vegetarian recipes on offer and all the dishes are cooked almost differently.

Punjabi Cuisine

Punjabi food has a long list of mouth-watery vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes. The spice content ranges from minimum to pleasantly high. Punjabi food is known across the globe for its variety it plays with lentils, pulses, all kinds of flours. Punjabi food is relished by almost all the communities across the globe.

Rajasthani Cuisine

The Rajasthani cuisine is mainly vegetarian and offers a variety of delightful and mouth-watering dishes. The spice content range of Rajasthani food is often high when compared with the other food cuisines of India, but the food is totally lip-smacking. Rajasthani food is mostly offered with a lot of ghee due to the spice content. This cuisine is well known for curries and delicious sweets like ghever.

Kashmiri Cuisine

This cuisine has evolved over the years. The food is highly influenced by the traditional food of the Kashmiri Pandits and it has now taken some of the cooking styles adopted by the people of Persia, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Kashmiri cuisine is filled with the use of dry fruits as well.

South Indian Cuisine

South Indian cuisine is known for light, low-calorie appetizing dishes like dosa, vada, idlis, and uttapam. These dishes are usually rice and lentils based and are yummy like anything.
