Why Croydon Is The Place To Live For Culture Vultures

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

Croydon may not have been named among the first two London Boroughs of Culture in late February - those honours ultimately going to Waltham Forest for 2019 and Brent for 2020 - but it is unquestionably one of the places to be for newcomers to the capital with an interest in the arts.

This part of south London has, after all, long had a vibrant music scene, its world-famous BRIT School alone producing such talents as Adele, Amy Winehouse, Rizzle Kicks and Jessie J.

Other institutions to have contributed to the area's cultural pre-eminence down the years - and therefore the demand for Properties In Croydon such as our very own ISLAND - have ranged from the currently under-refurbishment Fairfield Halls, where the likes of The Beatles and The Monkees have played, to the much more recently established BOXPARK.

However, it's when you get under Croydon's skin, beyond the most obvious attractions, that you really do get to appreciate its cultural richness.

Culture in Croydon is continuing to evolve

Croydon is by no means revelling in its former glories. Indeed, quite the opposite is happening - it has emerged from the doldrums of its formerly unglamorous image, becoming a destination that culture vultures from across London and beyond cannot ignore.

This is evident through such social spaces and creative hubs as Matthews Yard and TMRW, as well as local arts establishments like RISE Gallery and TURF. It's a place where you can find the very finest in art galleries, literary festivals, street parties, poetry nights and open mic events.

Combine such grassroots arts developments with big-money regeneration initiatives like the upcoming new £1.4 billion Westfield shopping centre that was recently given the green light by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, and it's clear to see why the most prestigious properties in Croydon are in such high demand right now. However, those local houses, apartments and penthouses are also still attainably priced compared to the alternatives in many other London boroughs.

Enquire now about ISLAND

While there are still some homes available to buy in the impressive 20-storey ISLAND project, we doubt that this will be the case for much longer - especially amid all of the excitement over Croydon's increasingly vibrant cultural scenes.

So why not get in touch with us now to register your interest in one of our sleek, contemporary and surprisingly affordable properties in Croydon, before it's too late?
