What made IBM to spend $200 Million for buying a huge Salesforce Partner?

by James Parkar IT Trainer and Consultant

To make its presence felt in the cloud computing market, IBM went ahead with the acquisition of Bluewolf Group which is considered among the biggest Salesforce Partner. Even though there is no official confirmation regarding the price being paid, sources suggest more than $200 million to have been already spent by IBM for the acquisition of Bluewolf Group. This had led to biggest challenges for two big companies namely SAP and Oracle. IBM is of the opinion that the prospects of Salesforce business is continuously growing and it have become a $111 billion business. The latest move by IBM is known to make it one of the biggest consulting partners for Salesforce.

The latest acquisition by IBM will likely give a huge boost in cloud computing as more companies prefer cloud computing such as Salesforce over age-old techniques that included massive installation of new SAP systems at enterprises which are nowadays rarely preferred by companies. IBM’s current consulting business was on a decline because of the higher failure rate of such old-school IT projects which resulted in enormous time consumption and over budget. Even though IBM has been already a consulting partner of Salesforce, the latest acquisition of Bluewolf has given new dimensions and speeded up the plans of the company and its progress towards leveraging the potential of cloud computing.

In short, IBM now views Salesforce as its next SAP when it comes to consulting business. SAP is known to offer CRM system that competes with Salesforce and IBM still remains the backbone of own cloud computing offerings from SAP instead of building their own data centers. But reports suggest Oracle being the direct competitor for IBM especially in the database business for years. The 12 global offices along with 500 and more employees would become an integral part of IBM Interactive Experience (iX) Unit. This acquisition by IBM has made its Interactive Experience Unit among the world’s largest digital agency with employee strength of 10,000 and more.
