Firstly, let us look at the function of turbocharger in diesel power generator.

The turbocharger can increase the oxygen intake to make the diesel oil burn more fully, so as to increase the power of diesel engine. Without turbocharger or intercooler, the power of diesel engine will decrease. At the same time, due to the different oil supply of high-pressure oil pump of various models, it will cause great damage to the generator and waste fuel.

The main function of the turbocharger of diesel generator set is to increase the air pressure to the cylinder, which is called supercharging. Exhaust gas turbocharger is often used in the supercharging of four stroke diesel engine, in order to make full use of the energy of exhaust gas. This is because the energy taken away from the exhaust after the oil combustion of large diesel generator set is equivalent to 35% ~ 40% of the heat energy developed by fuel oil. So that these energy can be further expanded and utilized in the turbine, which is equal to recovering the combustion heat energy of diesel and realizing the purpose of pressurization.

Secondly, let us look at the structure of the turbocharger in diesel engine generator.

The turbocharger of diesel generator set is mainly composed of compressor and turbine. The compressor part mainly includes single-stage centrifugal compressor impeller, diffuser, turbine shell, sealing device and other parts. The turbine part mainly includes volute, single-stage radial flow turbine impeller, turbine shaft and other components. The turbine shaft and turbine are welded together by friction welding. The compressor impeller is installed on the turbine shaft with clearance fit and fastened with nuts.

After the turbine and turbine shaft assembly are combined with the compressor impeller, accurate dynamic balance test must be carried out to ensure normal operation under high-speed rotation. 

The rotor support of the supercharger adopts the form of internal support, the full floating floating floating bearing is located in the middle body between the two impellers, and the axial thrust of the rotor is borne by the end face of the thrust ring. The turbine end and compressor end are equipped with sealing ring devices, and the compressor end is also equipped with oil retaining ring to prevent oil leakage.

Compressor casing, turbine casing and intermediate are the main fixings. Turbine casing and intermediate, compressor casing and intermediate are connected by bolts and pressing plates; The compressor casing can be installed at any angle around the axis.

The supercharger is lubricated by pressure. The lubricating oil comes from the main oil passage of the diesel engine and then flows back to the diesel oil pan through the oil return pipe.

Turbocharger has been an indispensable part of diesel engine generator. It greatly improves the power and torque of the engine under the same displacement and improves the fuel economy.
