Performance Testing Checklist of Mobile App

What is performance testing?

It is a testing method that evaluates the stability, responsiveness, and speed of a software application or program under a specific or varying workload. This testing method ensures that the performance bottlenecks that are identified in a software application are eliminated. It is considered to be a subset of performance engineering and is also known as “perf testing.”

Several indicators are examined by performance testing such as query processing time, network and page response times etc. The objective of performance testing is to evaluate data transfer velocity, processing speed, application output, command response times, maximum concurrent users, network bandwidth usage, workload efficiency, and memory utilization.

Key reasons for conducting performance testing:

• Computing bottlenecks can be located within an application

• To ensure whether the performance levels of an application as stated by the software vendor is indeed true

• Stability is measured under peak traffic events

• Two or more systems/applications are compared and the best performing system/application is identified.

Following is the performance testing checklist (partial) of mobile app:

• When the device is being charged the performance of the application must be checked

• When multiple characters are continuously entered by the users the performance of the application must be checked

• When the internet connectivity is low and the internet connection is off, check as to how the application works and behaves

• When the internet connection is switched between low-speed and high-speed networks, the performance of the application must be checked

• When a user clicks on multiple icons/buttons at the same time, the speed of the application must be checked

• The launch time of the application must be checked

• Check the performance of the application when the battery is low and also when the battery is fully charged

• Check how the application performs when a user is walking or is in a vehicle

• When multiple users are logging in at the same time, the performance of the application must be checked.
