Why is a three-phase induction motor self-starting?

A 3-phase motor has 3 single-phase lines with a 120° phase difference. Thus, the rotating magnetic field also has a phase difference, and the rotor will rotate as a result.

For instance, if we think of a, b, and c as three phases, after phase 'a' becomes magnetized, the rotor will shift towards the phase 'a'. Once phase "b" is magnetized in the following second phase, the rotor will also be magnetized, and phase "c" will follow. The rotor will continue to rotate in this way.

Why Does a 1-Phase Induction Motor Not Self-Start?

A single phase power source causes a one-phase induction motor to produce a pulsing magnetic field rather than a rotating one. A conductor's current supply creates a flux that can be split into two parts, each of which rotates at a constant speed in the opposite direction.

As a result, the net flux, induced current flow, and torque will all be zero. A single-phase induction motor cannot start on its own as a result. To solve this problem and make the motor self-starting, it is possible to briefly switch the motor to a 2-phase configuration during startup. Because of this, an additional winding in addition to the primary winding, which serves as the beginning winding, provides access to the stator of the one-phase motor. This means that the 1-phase supply is crossed by these windings.
