by Anju S. Marketing expert & Business analyst
There is a reason why unwanted hair is called as such – the hair that you have on your arms, legs, armpits and even chest are hair that you do not want. As much as you want the hair on your head to grow, you want the hair on the rest of your body to reduce and for that, we indulge in a range of actions – these could vary from shaving to hair epilation to hair removal creams. While all of these work in their own capacity, there is one major problem – your hair will eventually return!

Welcome to the world of laser hair removal! A revolutionary method of removing unwanted hair from literally any part of the body and most importantly, permanently!

There are those who would argue that laser hair removal cannot guarantee absolutely permanent hair removal and there is a bit of laser hair removal after care involved. To those people, the reply would be such – yes, there is a chance that some hair might return, but what does return will be very light in colour or extremely fine, which means that it will not even be properly visible at first glance. Moreover, the aftercare is actually minimal.

When laser hair removal is done at a reputed clinic and at the hands of a trained medical professionals, the chances of any side effects are minimal.

But it would not be wise to say that there are no laser hair removal side effects at all – here are some of the most common side effects and the easiest ways to minimize or treat them:

Irritation to the skin and redness – These are perhaps the most common side effects and can happen to almost everyone. In most cases, the irritation and redness should subside on their own and that too within hours.

 In order to minimize the redness and irritation, you can apply a cool compress on the areas that were treated.

 Stay away from hot showers or any other such heat-based exercises, such as steams or saunas.

 Avoid any strenuous exercise that could lead to excessive sweating.

 Use an alcohol-free moisturizer or pure aloe gel on the treated area for cooling.

 •  Blistering or burns – One of the rare laser hair removal side effects is blistering of the skin or burns and this could happen if the device is set to too high a temperature.

  This is one of the reasons why, it is imperative that you get your treatment done only at a reputed and reliable clinic and at the hands of a licensed and experienced practitioner.

  Given that your skin is extremely sensitive for a few hours post procedure, try to avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

 •  Scarring – Although rare, scarring can occur, if the healing of the skin is not proper – if you do not follow the instructions given for the healing process, there is a chance you could be left with a scar.

  This is why it is essential to follow the post-care instructions very carefully.

  You will also need to avoid venturing out into direct sunlight, before and after the procedure, to keep your skin protected and quicken the healing process.

•  Infections – This yet again is a rare side effect, but not something that cannot happen.

  You will be given instructions on how to take care of the treated area and you need to ensure that you follow the same.

  It is crucial that you keep the treated area dry and clean at all times.

  Avoid any makeup or chemical based products on the treated area for whatever is the period specified by the practitioner.

•  Pigment changes – Another rare laser hair removal side effects, for some people, this treatment could cause pigmentation, especially for those who have darker skin. People could notice either hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation.

  The easiest way to avoid this would be to get your procedure done through a reputed clinic and practitioner.

  In case you have any skin conditions, you should inform
 the clinic beforehand.

•  Crusting – There could be temporary crusting for some people and in most cases, these tend to fall off on their own.

  Follow all the laser hair removal after care instructions and avoid touching, picking or scathing the treated areas.

In some rare cases, there could be an allergic reaction to the numbing gels or creams that are used before the procedure, and in case you have some allergies, you need to tell the practitioner about the same in advance. Using proper protective eye wear could negate the chances of any serious eye injuries as well.

Should you get your treatment done through a licensed and experienced practitioner and you follow all the laser hair removal after care instructions given to you, there should not be any side effects at all.
